The entire car ride was awkward. I felt uncomfortable and completely out of place.
Jason sat beside me as he has his hand on my left leg. Constantly tracing small circles around my knees.
I smiled at the thought and then I glanced at him. He was at peaceful veering out the window like an eager dog.
I laughed. Outloud even. It filled the car with noiss which was good considering even Niklaus and Dixon were bored of the silence.
"What's so funny?" Jason wondered as he glanced at me. His empry glass eyes gazed at me. I couldn't help but melt inside, it was like a roaring fire was sparked up and now it was livid.
"You." I smiled a bit more confident in his finger tracings.
"How so?" He turned toward me releaving my knee as he looked me in the eye.
Damn it. Why the eyes. I thought.
"I don't knkw it was just funny. Do you like dogs?" I asked vaugely snickering.
"I love them." He entertained me. "Especially acting like one."
"He does that a lot." Dixon blurted out.
I laughed at the comment.
Jason glared at him with a much more annoyed look.
"Hey!" I snapped back to a serious moond as I remembered something. "You mentioned something about a code yesterday. What was that about?"
Dixon laughed. "Wow that bad. Jeez Jay you really need to tighten up with the local packs."
"It's not as easy as you think it is." Jason remarked. "Besides you're the one that didn't want the job in the first place."
I gazed at them. "Wait what?"
"I was first in line for becoming Alpha." Dixon announced. "But before I got the job I decided to leave packlife and live a normal life amongsr humans."
"Dixon is an all around business guy." Jason remarked.
"Takes one to know one. I'm more of a consultant. I help others with their profit margins and stuff like that. I'm good at inventory management too."
"Wair a minute!" I chided. "What is this code all about though!"
Jason laughed. Then Dixon laughed and suddenly everyone but me was laughing, even Niklaus.
I sat there and crossed my arms annoyed that no one cared to tell me what this Alpha code was.
"Its an assortment of laws that Alphas have to follow in order to keep the peace between their packs." Jason smiled. "Alpha codes are only ment to be enforced when one of the codes is implied or as a safety measure."
"What as the code you used?" I asked.
"Number 42." Jason sighed. "In the case of private property, an Alpha may only enter if he or she assumes full responsibility for any damage or death that occurs within the territory of the ruling Alpha. By enforcing this code you adhear to that responsibility."
"Mr Encyclopedia." Dixon smirked. "He's studied codes ever since he was twelve. By time he was twenty he could recite all of the fail safe ones."
"How many are there?" I asked.
Jason smiled. "Roughly about 96." He managed. "But out of that many only a handful are ever used or needed."
I took a deep breath. It was amazing to think there was a lot more to being an Alpha that I had known. I never knew about codes bur aside from that, I hardly ever was invited to sit in on meetings. I was a negotiator not a spokesmen.
