Meldrick pulled out a bottle of golden nectar from his pocket and gulped it all at once. His wounds healed instantly and he regained his strength. He joined Ava who was still unconscious and poured the golden liquid into her throat. Within seconds Ava opened her eyes and cried,

"Meldrick, my love! You're all right!" She sighed with relief and held Meldrick's hand tightly.

"Are they gone?" she asked.

"Yes, they're gone."

Ava slowly raised from the ground and looked around. Most humans were stained with blood lying on the ground. Jovius and the others were attending to them with the golden nectar and ambrosia - depending on how profound their wounds were. Next Ava noticed aunt Sybilla lying motionless on the ground. She jumped to her, gathered her aunt's hair to the side and looked at her lovingly. Next thing she knew feelings of profound grief overwhelmed her when she realized her aunt wasn't breathing.

"Aunt Sybilla! No!" she cried.

"Meldrick! Give her the healing liquid. Fast!"

Meldrick approached Ava slowly and crouched beside her.

"My love, I'm so sorry."

"No! No! No!" cried Ava desperately. "If it wasn't for me and my lack of skill! If only I had tried harder she wouldn't..." Ava sobbed.

"It's not your fault, my love. Your aunt fulfilled the prophecy."

"The prophecy? How? Wasn't I the one that was supposed to die?"

"An eff-human woman will be rescued by the Lapo from evil to take part in an exhausting battle with the Xemlix and to die for a noble reason," Meldrick recited the words of the prophecy. "Your aunt was rescued from the Xemlix during the last battle and now she died for a noble reason: to save you, to save the Lapo and to save the Earth. I couldn't imagine a more noble way to go."

"No, no, no!" sobbed Ava uncontrollably, "She can't! I need her, she raised me, I did't show her how much I loved her, how much..."

"She knew, my love," Meldrick tried to comfort her. "She knew all along how grateful you are. And she knew that the battle would end this way."

"How did she know? And why didn't she tell me?!" demanded Ava.

"She was a wise woman with her fully awaken powers. She could tell the future and she didn't tell you because she knew that you wouldn't play your part in the prophecy."

"But - my neckless - why didn't it save her with all its powers?"

"The Xemlix are a very powerful force and you did your part extremely well. We are all very proud of you. You are now no longer only Ava Davenport, the Eff descendant and oracle. You are now Ava Davenport, our hero."

"I don't want to be a hero, I want my aunt back," Ava pressed.

"In time it will all make sense to you, my love," said Meldrick in his deep soothing voice and kissed her gently on her forehead.

"Oh. My. God. What was that?" asked Roger as soon as all the humans and Lapo were tended to.

"That, my faithful friend, were the Xemlix - the most evil force in the universe - now locked in their dimension thanks to you and your friends.

"Man, I can't believe I was in a real battle, not just those computer ones."

You've reached the end of published parts.
