What's A Jedi?
Ingrid's POV
It had been a few days since Hera had invited me, no, basically just told me that I was joining the crew aboard the Ghost. I hadn't really gotten that close to any of them, but I had spoken to Hera and Sabine a few times and they both seemed very nice.
Sabine had agreed to let me share her bedroom, so I was grateful to her for that. Every time I entered the cockpit, I remembered that we were in space, and it just took my breath away. That's exactly what happened this morning when I woke up and went to see Hera in the cockpit.
I entered and saw that we were in space. It was amazing. I was never going to get used to it. I could tell that Hera was looking at me. She smiled.
"It's pretty spectacular, isn't it?" She asked me. I nodded. "You don't go off world much, do you?" I shook my head.
"No, but I'm never going to get used to this view." I replied. "It's just... wow." I laughed a little. Hera laughed too.
"I know what you mean." She said. "So, have you spoken to Zeb or Ezra yet?"
"Erm, no, not really." I replied. "I haven't really gotten the chance yet, and Zeb doesn't seem to like me that much."
"Eh, Zeb comes off that way a lot of the time but he's actually a really nice guy." Hera replied. "If you just go and talk to him, he'll probably surprise you and be really nice." I shrugged.
"Whatever you say, Hera." I replied. "Maybe later. What about Ezra, what's he's like?" I asked.
Hera laughed a little. "He's a real troublemaker."
"He seems like it." I replied. "Hey, where are we going, anyways?" I asked.
"I'm not sure, somewhere where Kanan and Ezra can practice." She replied. I got confused.
"Practice?" I asked. "Practice what?"

We were on a planet, I'm not sure which planet, just some planet, it was mostly deserted, which I guess was good for whatever Kanan and Ezra had to practice. We were sitting outside as Kanan and Ezra practiced. Hera had landed the Ghost.
"Come on, kid, do something interesting!" Zeb complained. He was obviously bored. "Use your Jedi magic tricks on someone."
"They aren't 'magic tricks,' Zeb." Kanan said.
"Yeah, whatever." Zeb replied.
"Sorry, 'Jedi'?" I asked. "What's a Jedi?"
"What's a Jedi?" Ezra laughed. "Er... Kanan, do you want to explain?" He offered him. Kanan rolled his eyes.
"The Jedi are an ancient race of peacekeepers, the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy." Kanan explained. "They use the force to keep the peace and to guide their actions."
"The force?" I asked.
"The force is what gives a Jedi his power," Kanan began. "It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together."
"Oh." I replied. "Mystical, I guess."
"You don't believe him?" Ezra asked. I shrugged.
"I mean if these Jedi are so powerful and righteous... then why haven't they done anything to help us? Fight against the Empire?" I asked.
Kanan sighed. "The Jedi died out long ago. Ezra and I are some of the only ones left. If there are others out there, I haven't run into them."
"Oh. So... there aren't any Jedi left?" I asked. Kanan shook his head.
"No, but I'm training Ezra in the ways of the force." He said. "Hopefully, one day, he'll be able to continue to pass down the Jedi ways to the next generation and the Jedi will come back."
"Don't get ahead of yourself, Kanan." Zeb said. "The kid can barely stand against someone in a fight." Ezra rolled his eyes.
"He's getting there." Kanan replied.
"Yeah, Zeb, I'm getting there." Ezra glared at the Lesat, who rolled his eyes in turn.
"So, do Jedi carry weapons?" I asked.
"They do, actually." Kanan replied. He grabbed the weapon from his belt that I didn't recognize from earlier. He ignited it a blade unlike any I had ever seen erupted from the end. "It's called a lightsaber."
"Whoa." I replied. "That's very... bright."
"It can cut through literally anything." Ezra added. "I have one too." He showed me his. He and Kanan's blades both shared the color of blue. "Oh, and it can do this," He held his lightsaber up like a blaster and fired a ball of energy at Kanan, who deflected the shot with his lightsaber.
"A bit of warning would've been nice." Kanan said to him.
"You're the one always going on about expecting the unexpected." Ezra shrugged.
"Yeah, whatever, kid." Kanan laughed a little.
"So... can anyone be a Jedi?" I asked.
"No, it's not that simple. You have to be force-sensitive to be a Jedi." Ezra said. "Right? That sounds right." He looked at Kanan.
"Yes, that's correct." Kanan nodded. "To become a Jedi you must have a certain set of abilities, you have to be force-sensitive."
"Ah." I nodded. "Well, I guess that makes sense. So, Jedi use the force to fight and stuff?"
"Well, fighting isn't all they do- did- they kept the peace." Kanan explained. "Before the Clone Wars, Jedi were nothing more than keepers of the peace. There was no fighting involved."
"Then why the lightsabers?" I asked.
"They were a 'just in case' type of thing." Kanan replied.
I nodded. "Right. So, you're the only one left?"
"That we know of." Kanan said. "If there are any other Jedi out there, then they're unknown to me."
* * *
That night as I lay on my bed, wide awake, my mind began to wander.
What happened to the Jedi? Why did they all die out? Was Kanan really the last Jedi or were there others out there?
Most importantly, if there were other Jedi, then where are they?
