The Inquisitor

Ingrid's POV

We all sat in silence. I was the first one to speak up. "Who... who was that guy?" I asked.

Again, silence.

"He's bad news?" I guessed.

"He's more than just bad news." Hera replied. "He's... evil."

"Isn't everyone involved with the Empire 'evil'?" I questioned. "How is he different? I mean, other than the fact that he has a red lightsaber."

"Ingrid, I know you don't understand, but he really is evil. He's..." Kanan trailed off.

"Is he a Jedi too?" I asked.

"No. He can use the force, but he uses the Dark Side." Kanan replied. I furrowed my eyebrows.

"The Dark Side?"

"A Jedi represents the good, the Light Side, an Inquisitor or a Sith represents the evil, or the Dark Side." He explained.

"And so the Inquisitor we just met, he uses the force, except it's the Dark Side and he uses it for evil?" I asked, making sure I understood what he had just explained.

"Exactly." Kanan nodded.

"And he knows that you and Ezra are Jedi?" I continued.

"Yeah." Ezra answered for him this time.

"So I take it that mean that he wants to capture you?"

"He wants to capture all of us and put an end to our rebellion." Hera nodded. "It's worse that he knows that Kanan and Ezra are Jedi."

"Oh." I said simply. Okay, what was I supposed to say? First of all, now that I know who he is, I won't be sleeping tonight. Secondly, he now knows that I exist, so he'll be after me too. I had never wanted to get mixed up in this whole rebellion business. It wasn't fair.

I shouldn't complain, I know, they took me in, they offered to protect me from the Empire. But I should've told them to take me back to Lothal when I had the chance, now not only am I in danger, I could be putting them in even more danger than they are already in. I sighed.

"I'm... going to go back to my room." I said and without another word walked back to mine and Sabine's room. I flopped face first down on to my bed and buried my face in my pillow.

My mind wandered. Why had they saved me in the first place? I was a nobody, no one special or important, just some girl trying to survive on her own on a planet. They didn't have to risk their lives for me, and yet they did. Why?

And now that they had saved me, the Empire was looking for me and them. They had already been in enough trouble with the Empire, and saving me had just made that list longer.

Someone knocked on the door. "Come in." I said. The door slid open and revealed Ezra to be the one standing on the other side. I sat up. "Hey, what's up?" I asked.

"I was about to ask you the same question," He admitted with a shrug. He came into the room and the door closed behind him. "Are you okay?"

Ezra and I had never really hung out by ourselves together, so it was a bit awkward for me, and I'm sure for him as well. "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" I replied.

"You just seemed kinda... distant, I guess." Ezra shrugged as he sat down on the floor and crossed his legs. "After the whole thing with the Inquisitor, I don't blame you, he's pretty scary guy."

"I'm not scared." I said.

"That's not what I meant, I know you're not." He assured me. "It's just, you seem like you've got something on your mind."

"Well, you certainly know me better than I thought you did, Ezra." I laughed a little. "Yeah, I guess I do have something on my mind..."

It was silent for a moment. "Do you want to tell me or just sit here in awkward silence?" Ezra asked, there was a playful teasing in his voice. I shrugged and looked down at my hands. "Ah, come on, Ingrid, you can tell me. We're friends, aren't we?"

I took a deep breath and sighed. "Yeah, we are." I replied. "It's just... I'm confused about something."

"What're you confused about?"

I looked up at Ezra. "I... why did you guys save my life?" I asked. Ezra looked surprised at this question.

"What do you mean why did we save your life? We couldn't just stand by and watch you get executed." He said.

"But you guys didn't even know me, you'd never met me, I wasn't one of your friends... so why? Why save someone you don't know who's unimportant?" Again, I looked down at my hands. "It just doesn't make any sense to me. And then you let me stay and become apart of the crew. Why? Why not just dump me on some planet? I'm not doing you any good, you haven't been able to return to Lothal because of me!"

"Hey, hey, calm down." Ezra said, getting to his feet and coming to sit next to me on the bed. "Ingrid, we saved you that day on Lothal because it was the right thing to do. You aren't deadweight, you're a member of this team and believe it or not, we all care about you." He began. "So what if we haven't been able to return to Lothal yet? We will be able to some day. The Empire will forget that they're even looking for you and it'll be safe to return and resume our... rebelling."

I sighed.

"And before you start going on, you are doing us good. I don't think we've ever been this close as a team, you've brought us together." He added. "You're a member of this team now, so don't you dare think that there isn't anything that we wouldn't do for you. We may not have known you when we saved you, but we know you now and I'm glad that we do. You're one of my best friends and I can't imagine what it would be like without you here, even if it has only been a few weeks since you joined."

I smiled a bit and looked up at Ezra. "Thank you, Ezra." I said. "But... the Inquisitor..."

"Don't worry about the Inquisitor." Ezra said. "He may be scary but he isn't indestructible, he has weaknesses too and Kanan and I have fought him before, it'll be fine."

"If you say so..." I trailed off.

"Don't worry," He repeated. "And hey, if you ever need anyone to talk to, you can come to me, or Kanan, or anyone else. We're all here for you. Even Chopper."

"I find that hard to believe." I laughed a bit. Ezra did too.

"He's stubborn and he's rude, but he cares... sometimes." Ezra stood and walked to the door. It slid open.

"Thanks, Ezra." I smiled.

"No problem, Ingrid." He returned the smile. "I'll be out in the rec room if you want to come out and play a game of Dejarik, then again... I'd probably win."

"Oh, would you now?" I asked, leaning back.

"Yeah, it would probably be better if you didn't even try... I'd beat you in a matter of minutes." He shrugged.

"Let's test that theory, shall we?" I asked, standing up and walking over to him.

"Okay, but I'm telling you, I'll beat you." Ezra warned, obviously teasing.

"Right," I said. "Sure you will."

[OMGGGG Ezra and Ingrid bonded!! I'm super happy with this chapter, to be honest. I've been wanting to write a chapter where Ezra and Ingrid become closer friends and I finally did it! Can't wait till the next chapter!]
