The Search

3rd Person

Kanan's eyes suddenly flew open when he heard Ingrid's voice in his head. What?! How could he be hearing her voice and why hadn't Ezra replied? He must've been too weak to respond... But that still didn't explain why he had heard Ingrid's voice instead.

Well, the answer was pretty obvious, actually. Kanan knew he had sensed something odd about her... He had just hoped that the Inquisitor wouldn't find out. But if she had been captured by the Empire and the Inquisitor was with both of them... then he would find out about her powers soon enough.

Kanan sighed. "Kanan!" Ingrid's voice repeated. "Please... are you there?"

"Yeah, I'm here, don't worry." Kanan replied.

"How... how can I hear you in my head? How can you hear me?" She asked.

"It's the Force, you're connected to me through it... so we can communicate with each other through it." Kanan replied.

"Wha-what? The Force? That doesn't make any sense! How can I be using the Force? I barely understand it!" Ingrid exclaimed.

"Calm down, Ingrid." Kanan said. "I need for you to tell me what's going on right now. Where are you?" He asked.

"I... Ezra and I are in a cell." Ingrid replied. "The Inquisitor just left the room... I think they're about to make me go back to my cell."

"The storm troopers?" Kanan asked.

"Yes..." Ingrid replied. "Kanan... The Inquisitor... he hurt Ezra... he's trying to get him to turn to the Dark Side."

Kanan froze. The Inquisitor wanted to turn Ezra to the Dark Side? He wouldn't get away with that. Ezra is stronger than he is.

"Ezra is strong. So are you, he won't break you or him." Kanan assured her.

She didn't respond. "Ingrid?" He asked. "Ingrid, are you there?" Again, there was no response. He sighed. The connection had been broken. But at least he knew that they were alive.

But he didn't know for how much longer. He stood up and quickly rushed into the rec room, where the others were sitting. "They're alive." Kanan said.

"You can feel it?" Sabine questioned.

"I heard Ingrid's voice in my head, she said that the Inquisitor is torturing them, but they're both alive." Kanan replied.

"Wait, you heard Ingrid's voice?" Hera asked. Kanan nodded.

"Yeah. The only way I can think to explain it right now is that she's like Ezra. But that's not important right now," Kanan said. "We need to find them. They're not going to be able to hold out for much longer."

"One problem," Zeb said. "We don't have any idea where the kids are. We only know that they haven't left the system."

"But why haven't they yet? Wouldn't they want to make a quick escape?" Sabine questioned.

Zeb simply shrugged.

"Whatever the reason might be, we still need to figure out where they are," Kanan said.

"Well, how are we gonna do that?" Zeb asked, crossing his arms.

"We could always hack into a Imperial frequency... They might be talking about where they're holding Ezra and Ingrid." Sabine suggested.

"Then that's our best bet for the time being." Kanan replied. "Sabine, do you think you can do that?"

Sabine smirked. "I'm offended, Kanan." She said. "Of course I can. But I'm going to need a few things."

"Name 'em." Kanan said.

"Well, first, we're going to need to break into an Imperial transmitter room." Sabine said. "I can do everything I need to do from there."

"Where's the closest one located?" Hera turned to Chopper. Though this droid didn't normally like to help out, he did what he was asked and located the nearest transmitter. He beeped his response to Hera. "Good, it isn't in the capital city." She noted.

"We need all the information we can get on this place," Kanan said. "It's design and layout, how many troopers are normally posted and where, who all will be there tonight... Things like that."

Chopper beeped again. He was on it.

Chopper got the information that they needed. After they'd studied it, they came up with a plan on how they would break in.

"Okay, so this transmitter isn't under heavy guard, unlike the one in the capital." Sabine started. "So breaking in will be a bit easier than expected. The least guarded area is the south entrance, there are only four guards posted there."

"So we'll sneak in through that entrance, go down this hallway here," Kanan pointed to a hallway on the holographic map. "And the main transmitter room should be at the end of it."

"But there will be guards posted all down the hall," Hera said.

"Right, but they're bucket heads, we can take 'em." Zeb replied.

"Hera, we'll need you to be waiting outside, like as our getaway driver." Kanan continued.

"And we should probably take the Phantom, they won't be able to identify it as easily as they would the Ghost." Sabine added.

"You're right." Hera nodded in agreement.

"When should we go?" Zeb asked. "We need to find the kids as soon as possible, right?"

"They can't hold out much longer, you said so yourself, Kanan." Hera added.

"We need to leave now." Kanan replied. "Right now."

The others nodded in agreement an went to their quarters to grab what they would need.

This was going to be one heck of a mission. Kanan sat in his room with his eyes closed, meditating. "Ingrid, Ezra, if you can hear me, just know that we're coming for you. You'll both be safe soon, don't worry."

Kanan opened his eyes and stood up. He grabbed his lightsaber and clipped it to his belt. He grabbed his blaster and put it in his holster.

He walked out the door and didn't look back.
