"We established this roadway around 2050,"Klaus begins as we traveled down the highway."Since then the systems have been updated and our cars have become smart enough to drive themselves." He places a hand on Ramone's shoulder,"No offense, we do appreciate your service."
"Yes." Ramone quickly whispers not removing his eyes from the road.
"This system was put into place by our king in order to provide a form of secrecy for Royal officials." His green eyes meet mine again."Which you have been given the opportunity to become."
I nod my head lightly and tug at the hem of my dress.
"Are you nervous Alliana?"
I shake my head."No I'm-"
"Don't lie." His tone is condescending and after a moment of silence a smirk lifts his lips.
"You ask questions when you already know the answers."My voice is wavering, and I try not to let too much of my annoyance slip through.
The smirk grows into a smile on his face. "Yes, I'm aware, but its fun seeing the gears turning in your eyes as they try and find a way to deceive me?And then hearing the lie slip through your lips is the icing on the cake."
I'm at a loss for words as his gaze intensifies into mine through the rear view mirror, his seat, being the only thing keeping us apart, seems to disappear.
His eyes glow dangerously and his smile stretches. A warm feeling spread throughout my body and I am suddenly in a trace, and can feel every thought that passes into his mind.
What are you? His voice floats into my mind.
What do you mean? My voice is ghostly.
Enough games. Anger surges from him to me.
Games? My brow furrows and I beg he feels my confusion and fear as I I try and sink back into my seat.
You don't know. The realization is clear, and the scorching heat ceases. You have no idea.
As I'm released from his trance I tear my gaze from his and stare forward in a daze. My mind is racing as it tries to rule out the thoughts that were not mine from my own. Klaus's hot gaze is burning holes into my forehead through the rear view mirror and I can still feel the amusement coursing through his veins at the thought of my confusion.
I have no idea? What was that supposed to mean?
"Alliana, are you alright?" My fathers hand is on my shoulder."You look pale."Avoiding the mirror I look at my father and nod my head weakly.
He hadn't noticed Klaus's eyes change?
My father smiles back at me and returns his gaze to the tablet in his hands where he's completing a report of sorts.
I can't wrap my mind around the different sensations that course through me as I tear my eyes from his. I feel something from the back of my mind, a memory perhaps, trying to surface, but I reject its advancement and force myself to look out of the car window.
I drown myself in the high tech lighting systems and electronic projection billboards lit up on the side of the highway, and even through our cars deep tint the colors are brilliant. I supposed one couldn't expect anything less than brilliance from the king.
