Jon sauntered down to team breakfast the next morning with a permanent smile on his face. He couldn't believe Mati had said yes. She was amazing. That's all he could process right now.

Pat interrupted Jon's thoughts as he reached for a banana.

"Did you find a bunny to take home last night?"

"What? No!" Jon defended.

"Little fun in the shower this morning then?" Pat teased.

"No, dude, stop." Jon grumbled.

"Then what, oh what, could make our Jonny Boy so damn happy?"

Jon smiled and lowered his voice.

"Mati"

A confused look passed Pat's face.

"Mati and you fucked last night? Did she fly out or somethin?"

Jon groaned and slapped Pat upside the head.

"No dumbass. We talked last night. She said yes to being my girlfriend. Not all happiness comes from sex, Kaner."

Pat shrugged.

"I would disagree. But congrats, man. She's a dime."

Jon just smiled proudly.

Mati was enjoying her day off. She loved the team but loved her alone time just as much. She was still on cloud nine from Jon's three in the morning sweetness and could still hardly fathom that he was now her boyfriend. She had sent texts to Taylor and Tyra and they were both beyond excited for her. She was still hoping they'd be able to come spend a few days in Chicago before the spring was over.

Especially now that they had to meet her boyfriend.

It felt weird to say. She hadn't called anyone hers since AJ.

She shook her head to clear her thoughts before she started down that slippery slope.

She should call her mom, she thought. That always helped.

Mati reached for her phone.

Her mom picked up after the first ring.

"Well hello my long lost daughter!" She exclaimed.

"Hey Mama" Mati replied.

"I miss you. I thought you fell off the face of the earth. They aren't working you too hard are they? Or is that hockey player takin' up all the time? You never told me how that date went, by the way." She said in one breath.

"I know, I know mama. I'm sorry. No they haven't been working me too hard. And he's good...that's actually why I called you...." Mati trailed off.

She could see her mom giving her the mom look through the phone.

"Mm and what about him?" Her mom questioned.

"Weelllllllllll" Mati lead her on.

"Matisen Claire" her mother warned.

"He asked me out. Last night" Mati added.

Her mom was silent for a moment.

"That's great baby. I am so happy for you! Tell me about him. And that date of course. I tried googling him....toes, right?"

Mati laughed. "Not quite mama...."

The two went back and forth for nearly an hour. Mati missed her mom so much. Between Nashville and now Chicago, she was lucky to see her a handful of times during the year, despite her best efforts.

They ended it with love you's and talk soon's and Mati felt at peace after talking to her.

That peace was interrupted shortly after as Tess came home ranting on about work.

As Tess was going on about "this stupid bitch who can't uncap a bottle", Mati stopped her.

"Tess, why don't we grab pizza and beer and sit down to watch the Hawks tonight?"

Tess eagerly agreed and after a trip to the grocery store, they found themselves curled up on the couch watching pregame.

"So what's the story now with Captain Sexy?" Tess mumbled through a bite of pizza.

Mati flushed.

"Oh my god he asked you out or something didn't he?!" Tess screamed.

"Shhh! We have neighbors! But yes...he just might have last night...."

"The old witch downstairs is probably already calling the cops but holy shit this is so major!"

Mati chuckled. "I don't know about that.."

"It's not every day your roommate starts dating Jonathan Toews, Matisen." Tess said in a mock serious voice.

Mati rolled her eyes and grinned. "I don't know where you from but where I'm from that's nothing outta the ordinary."

Tess rolled her eyes right back and suddenly got a look on her face. A few moments later, Tess jumped up and ran out of the room, returning moments later with nothing other than a red number 19 jersey.

She grinned at Mati.

"Put this on." She commanded.

Mati grabbed the jersey from her and did as she was told.

"Now give me your phone"

"Um why?" Mati asked suspiciously.

"Give your man a little pregame luck. A cute picture of your in his jersey outta do the trick!" Tess excitedly explained.

"Oh no no no!" Mati argued as she reached for her phone. Tess was too quick.

She raised an eyebrow at Mati.

"Now turn around and do something cute."

"Like what?!" Mati fought.

Tess was already taking pictures.

Jon never kept his phone on before a game, and rarely ever brought it into the locker room. Some of the guys did, especially the family guys, but he just found it distracting.

Today was another story though. He was hoping to hear from his girlfriend, and was also worried. If she was having nightmares last night, and she would probably be going to bed well before the game was over....

He stopped himself. She would be okay and he needed to focus. No one could come between him and hockey, even the girl he already loved.

He was sitting in his stall, visualizing one last time before they walked out, when his phone beeped.

Completely against all his rules, he quickly grabbed it to check it. He had 4 messages from Mati.

The first three were pictures.

Holy hell. He thought as he opened the first one. It was her with a big smile wearing his jersey. Her hair was in a messy bun on top of her head and she had on black leggings. He thought she looked stunning...especially in his jersey. That was just downright hot.

The second one was her glaring at the camera. The third was her caught in the middle of laughing. She wasn't looking at the camera but she just looked so....so Mati. Relaxed, happy.

Jon instantly downloaded all three and saved them, putting the last one as her contact picture.

The final message was a text.

I am so sorry I am NOT trying to be self centered! Tess thought it would be cute to dress me up in the jersey and send you a good luck picture. Evidently she found a few she liked. I am sorry to bug you! But good luck tonight I'll be watching :)

Jon laughed. She was adorable.

Don't you worry your pretty self. Nothing gives me as good of luck as a beautiful girl in my jersey...named Mati. I'll score for you...btw you look absolutely gorgeous tonight.

He had all the luck he needed.
