A/N I'm sorry folks, but this is the last chapter of this fanfiction. I found it hard to continue, so I'm stopping here. Thanks for reading!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Sirius' POV
Please don't let me be too late, I thought to myself, speeding down the road in my motorbike. Lily had sent her Patronus to all of us, informing us that he was there.
I arrived in Godric's Hollow and abandoned my bike, running into the damaged house, wand raised.
As I sped through the hall, I tripped over something and fell. I snuck a look at what tripped me and my heart caught in my throat. It was James. His lifeless eyes staring wide at the ceiling.
Too late, I thought. Please let Lily and Harry be okay.
I rushed into the bedroom, and again was overwhelmed with emotion. Lily, similar to James, lay on the floor lifelessly. But while James' face was calm, Lily's last emotion was etched upon her face. Panic.
Next to Lily's body, I saw the one person I had the capability to rip to shreds. His body, too, lay lifeless.
I looked up and finally noticed Harry crying hysterically in his crib. He had a scar on his forehead that I'd never seen before. And it took me a moment to realize the scar was fresh.
I picked Harry up and cradled him gently. "Shh Harry," I attempted to soothe. "Uncle Padfoot is here. Don't worry we'll get you to safety."
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a little rat scurry into the wall. How could we be so stupid? That traitor thought he could get away without us noticing. And he almost did.
Suddenly, a heavy hand landed on my shoulder, making me jump. I turned to see Hagrid. "Sirius, it's Dumbledore's orders to give 'Arry to 'is aunt an' uncle."
I held Harry close to my chest. "I'm his godfather," I said firmly. "He's supposed to be with me."
"They're coming after ye, the Ministry," Hagrid informed me. And I knew why. They thought I had told him where to find Lily and James and Harry. They thought that just because I was a Black and all Blacks were Death Eaters, then I would be one too. They didn't even consider that I was their best friend. But then again, so was Peter.
Hagrid saw the look of worry on my face. "Don't run or you'll seem suspicious. Let 'em come, an' then explain. Ask fer a trial. Anything."
I handed Harry to Hagrid and said, "Make sure he's safe." Hagrid nodded.
Before leaving, he turned around and asked, "Would ye mind if I borrowed yer bike?" I gave him permission and watched him leave.
I sent Moony my Patronus, telling him the dreadful news and asking him to come immediately. He did so, but right before him came the Ministry officials.
When Remus arrived, he looked shocked to see the officials, and I couldn't blame him.
"Sirius Black, you are hereby sentenced to a lifetime of Askaban for your support to Voldemort and revelation of the Potter's place in hiding," one of the officials told me. This wasn't what I was expecting. I was expecting them to arrest me and give me a trial, but they had sentenced me right then and there.
I looked over at Remus. He was beginning to back away in horror. No, I thought. He thinks I actually did it. I tried to send him a glance letting him know to trust me, but he didn't receive it.
"Excuse me sir, but isn't it law for me to be able to have a trial. I think you're mistaken. I know who betrayed them, and it wasn't me," I addressed the official.
He just rolled his eyes at me. "You're not going to get yourself out of this one, Black. Just like your brother, always trying to prove that you were okay."
I felt heat rising up inside me. "Don't you dare talk about my brother! He was a great man!"
Miraculously, the official stayed calm. "Alright, whatever helps you sleep at night. Bonham, Crawford, get ahold of him."
Two other officials walked towards me, ready to whisk me off to hell. When they finally grabbed my arms, I started violently thrashing and yelled, "I didn't do it! I love Harry and Lily and James! I know who betrayed them! Ask Dumbledore, he'll tell you I'm innocent!" I looked over to Remus for help, but none came. "Remus you know I didn't do it. I love them and I love you and I would never give it up, not for anything. I'd rather die! Damn it, REMUS JOHN LUPIN YOU LOOK AT ME!" But he wouldn't. He looked at the ground and left me helpless.
One of the officials took out his wand and stunned me. As I felt my eyes droop, I only saw one thing. Ahead of me, with a disappointed expression, Remus stood, arms crossed, mouthing the words, "I hate you."
