Thieves of tomorrow (Short story)

Chapter one: running free

"Rae come on, we're wasting valuable running time" Ivan moaned getting aggravated at my lack of motivation towards going on a run. Ivan is my alpha and I'm his second in command, his beta. We're the total opposite of each other im fair haired with bright blue eyes and he's dark and intense with black hair and deep brown eyes. We've been friends since we were 4 and he found my wolf Luna running in the woods after my home pack was killed by rogues, since then he's been like a brother to me and we've been inseparable ever since.
I trudge down the stairs dragging my feet purposely to annoy Ivan. When he catches sight of me being intentionally slow, a low growl erupts from his chest and he pounces throwing me over his shoulder and races outside, with me kicking and laughing.
"Ivan put me down!" I screamed in protest as we crash through the edge of the forest outside the packs main house. Finally he puts me down and I smack him playfully as we laugh together.
"Come on Rae lets go" Ivan says in between laughs. We both duck behind separate trees and strip down, leaving out clothes neatly for when we return. I kneel on the damp soil and inhale the earthy fresh sent I always love when we do this, I focus on the feel of it on my bare knees and the sound of the slight wind rustling the leaves above and the creatures moving in the undergrowth and soon I begin to shift. The sound of cracking bones and low groans from my wolf Luna penetrates the air. After a minute My shift is fully complete. Concentrating on the environment helps me shift with little or no pain.
My wolf Luna is completely white with bright blue eyes like me, we look very similar in terms of eyes and hair. Luna is quite big for a female wolf , but she's also extremely fast which comes in handy when we're hunting or just racing.
I step out from behind the tree and see Ivan hasn't finish shifting yet as i can't see him anywhere I laugh and mind-link Ivan and shout through it "Ha! I win, slow poke!" And do a small victory dance that I'm glad he can't see as I know I look stupid. Halfway through my dance I hear a rustle in the bushes opposite were Ivan was and Luna automatically takes over and we crouch getting ready to pounce, suddenly out of nowhere Ivan's wolf zake catches me by surprise and throws me to the ground, he pins us down until I bite him gently casing him to Yelp in surprise and lose his grip, I pin him down getting the upper hand. We wrestle like this for a few minutes until he gives in so I let him get up and he says "you really think you could shift faster than me beta?" He chuckles through the mind-link. I growl playfully.
Ivan's wolf zake is black as midnight with dark brown eyes and looks similar to Ivan, Even in wolf form we're still the opposite.
I wait a while before I dash into the forest at full speed, knowing that Ivan will chase me I let Luna take control as we run faster when she's in control she loves racing especially when she wins. I know that zake would be in control of Ivan by now. So I ask Luna to speed up through our bond. I can feel zake nipping at my tail getting closer by the moment. We race through the forest jumping over fallen logs and crystal clear streams . At certain points he'd pounce and pin me down and we'd wrestle before taking off again. After a few hours of playing and racing we return to our clothes and shift back laughing the whole time I didn't even need to distract myself when shifting I was too busy laughing. We walk back to the pack house laughing and so tired we just fell on the sofa in the pack living room and fell asleep as soon as we sat down. I love these days when we can just let go of our duties and be kids again, even if we only get them a few times a year they're worth it.
