Chapter 4: Mother and baby

I walk the short distance from the pack house to the hospital to give my congratulations to the new parents and see the newest member of our pack. I really hope Ivan comes as I know he got the message through the mind-link and it would be rude if he didn't come as he is the alpha.
The smell of antiseptic fills my nose before I'm even in the vicinity of the hospital. I follow the sound of laughter and the New scent which must be baby Harrison.
I walk into the room and find only mother and baby in there. Cora's face is strained and looks weary but she has a spark in her eye that wasn't there before as she looks at the pup in her arms. I can feel the love and protectiveness coming off her very strongly already.

My eyes cast upon the baby. As my eyes fall on him he opens his eyes and they're vivid blue, his little face scrunches up in a toothless smile and he reaches his little wrinkled hand out towards me. He has quite a lot of hair for a newborn, it's dark black like his father and contrasts against eyes. He's a very cute baby and I'm sure he'll break a few hearts when he's older.

Cora smiles at me "Hello beta Raven, This is Harrison as I'm sure you've heard" I smile back at her and nod. "he's lovely Cora well done, I'm sure he'll grow up to be a great delta like his dad one day" she looks down at the infant in her arms and motions for me to take him, I do so willingly.
I give him my hand and he immediately wraps his small fingers around my big one and falls asleep immediately. I look towards Cora and say "he's beautiful Cora, where's Cameron and your other visitors?" 
"Cameron's gone to get something to eat, Katie and Kyle are back on shift and we haven't told anyone else yet we wanted him to meet his alpha and beta first" I nod letting her know I'm grateful. I explain why Ivan isn't here and she nods seeming to accept my excuse for Ivan. I'll be having a word with him later as its his duty as alpha to  meet and accept the new members it seems I'm doing most of his job lately.
I pass Harrison back to his mother and say my goodbyes apologising again for Ivan.
On my way out I bump into Cameron and give him my congratulations and he thanks me and bows his head in submission to me. I tell him about Ivan and he accepts my excuse and apology but I can see it makes him sad that his alpha haven't come to accept his son even if he won't say it.
Maybe I'll be having that talk will Ivan a lot sooner that I thought.
