Chapter Seventeen: Times of Trouble

"Prince! Wake up, wake up! Something's happening!"

Flopping onto my back, the dreaded feeling of not wanting to wake up weighed heavy. Can't Ellie just let me sleep in? Just once?

"Prince get up!"

Shoving my covers off, Ellie began poking me in the ribs; sending a jolt of unpleasantness throughout my entire body.

"Ellie, stop that!" I yelled between moans.

"Well you weren't answering me so I had to take it to a whole other level! You only have yourself to blame for that one!"

Rolling my eyes, I sat up with a stretch; the sound of many voices from outside finally entering my ears as I became more aware and awake.

"What's going on?"

"I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with the Time Rune getting stolen.."

Flashes of the mysterious man with fiery red hair and golden eyes suddenly came back to me, and how he used us to get the rune.. W-What was he planning on using it for?

"You saying that false guide from the Royal Trial did something with our rune?"

Ellie nodded while peering down from the window; a mass of people from the villages in our land swarmed around the gates to the castle; demanding my father give them an audience..

"My brother went to find out more of the details," Ellie began as she closed the window. "But I'm almost positive that guy in the trials has something to do with whatever is happening. The whole city is in an uproar, even villagers from a good distance away are gathering here.."

"Great.." I couldn't help but sigh. I knew my father had sent some of his best guards to search for the stealing impostor, but no word has been sent yet about their findings..

Climbing out of bed, my thoughts turned to how hungry I was, and how breakfast was most likely going to be late due to this situation.. Can't anything be normal nowadays? It seemed like there was always something everyday.. I didn't know how my father could handle it all the time, and the thought that some day I was going to take his place as King scared me more than anything.. How was I to handle an entire kingdom?

"Ah, brother! What did you find out?" Ellie hopped on my bed; her ears itching for the latest news update.

Delita slowly closed the door, his expression a bit disturbed as he looked up at Ellie and I.

My heart began beating intensely since Delita hardly ever had an expression like the one he did now, and I'm sure Ellie felt the same way; her own expression turning to a sober one..
