Chapter Fourteen: Jeramik's Test
Shadows of the summer trees danced a crossed my room as the morning light of the sun broke through the horizon; painting the sky with soft colors of purples, reds, and pinks.
It was something that just the other day I took for granted, but now, after facing the scariest thing of my life.. I've learned to appreciate for the first time..
Breathing in the moment, I sat up to throw my covers off, only to find my Mother asleep in a chair next to me; her long soft curly hair never a mess, even after a day like yesterday..
I'm sure I was to be grounded for the rest of my life after that, and even now I could still hear her voice yelling at Seph for taking me to the Grotto.. Who I felt horrible for because if it wasn't for Seph running back for help and running into my brother and Jeramik, I wouldn't be laying here right now. I'd still be in the belly of that jelly beast..
Climbing out of bed, I tiptoed past my Mother before creeping out of my bed room; wondering if Alex was awake.. I didn't really get a chance to talk to him yesterday, I was so weak and tired that all I wanted to do was sleep..
Slowly opening Alex's bedroom door, it didn't surprise me that he wasn't inside; his bed perfectly made from when our Mother prepared it several days before, but even she knew he wouldn't be sleeping there. Alex was one who normally either slept on the couch, or went off somewhere else to sleep. Where that would be I wouldn't have a clue, only that it's normal and just something my brother did..
"Oh well, maybe I'll see him at breakfast.."
Giving into a yawn, I wondered toward the kitchen to find a certain red head rummaging through the pantry like some kind of scavenger. I tell you, the kid acts like he never gets fed a day in his life!
"Seph! What are you doing here? Doesn't your Grandma feed you?"
Completely unaware that I was there, Seph jumped back in fright; the bowl of oats and cream he had helped himself to falling to the floor in an echoing crash.
"Awe man, my breakfast!"
"Your breakfast?" I shook my head before raising an eyebrow.
Seph merely grinned nervelessly; his golden eyes reflecting back at me in a mischievous manner; showing he was mind gazing me to see if I was truly angry at him..
"Stop that, how many times do I have to tell you not to mind gaze me? It's annoying.." Pausing, I walked over to grab a towel from a small closet before turning back and tossing it to Seph. "Here, clean up the mess, and no, I'm not mad at you."
"Really? Thank God, I was depressed all night last night thinking you wouldn't ever talk to me again.." Seph grinned; only this time more of his normal expression. "Ms. Amaya sure scolded me good though.."
"Yeah, I heard. I woke up just a little to hear her yelling at you. Don't worry though, she's not really mad at you, and besides, you should be used to it by now."
"Heh, yeah, wouldn't be the first time your mother scolded me, but I'll admit, this was the scariest scolding she's given me, ever!"
Cleaning his mess, Seph stretched before releasing a loud yawn. It was obvious to me now that he really didn't get any sleep the night before, and to be honest, it even looked like he had been crying..
"So, have you've seen Alex anywhere by chance? Like usual he didn't sleep in his room."
Walking to the window, Seph pointed out toward the Sunni Forest. "I saw him heading into the woods with Jeramik, Sarah, and Mattah."
