Chapter Eight: The Royal Trial (Part Two)

“Ellie, stop dragging me so hard!” The grip she had on my hand wasn’t the most pleasant of ones and hurt more than anything else. I knew she was excited about this whole adventure thing, but she could at least slow down a bit so I could catch my breath.

“Ellie control yourself!” Delita scorned from behind; his normal, calm tone changing slightly to a bit of an annoyed one. “This isn’t a race, and we don’t know what’s up ahead!”

I could feel Ellie’s grasp lighten as she finally began slowing down and coming to an abrupt stop in what was most likely the main chamber of the Temple; forcing me off balance and smacking my face into her backside.

“Wow! Look at this place, it’s HUGE!” Ellie’s eyes lit up like fireworks as she tried to absorb everything in the chamber in its entirety. I however, merely attempted to catch my breath.

“Do you ever listen?” Delita snarled between his own breaths. “I swear, your energy level is enough to power up an entire Kingdom..”

That I would have to definitely agree with. No one, and I mean no one, has the energy that Ellie has. The girl could continue on forever, and when she did get tired, she’d drop fast asleep no matter where she’s at. I know this based off experience, seeing as I’ve found her face flat, snoring like a baby in the most unusual places; one place being the kitchen floor with the ice box wide open. My guess would be she wanted to sneak some ice cream and was so darn tired that she literately passed out right in the middle of doing it. Sometimes I wish I had that kind of energy and spirit, things might be different for me if I did..

“It’s not my fault you two are such slow pokes, wasting away by taking your time.”

“That’s irrelevant to our current situation Ellie! This isn’t one of our strolls through the woods, or one of your fantasy adventures, this is a Ritual Trial that has been apart of our Royal’s customs for ages and should be respected and taken seriously.”

“Ugh.. Spare me the lecture brother, I don’t have time to listen cause this place is AWESOME!”

So much for respecting and taking things seriously. Delita shook his head while placing a hand over his face; his expression somewhat sad and disappointed. “What am I going to do with you Ellie..?”

I sighed inwardly before turning to gaze over the room that got Ellie so excited. It was indeed massive, that’s for sure. Painted in gold and silver, the chamber stood with four great arches on each side; all covered from top to bottom in those strange symbolic lettering. Lanterns mysteriously hovered just above our heads with bright and dark colors; many with odd shapes and sizes; they slowly swayed back and forth as if they were on strings, but yet no string could be seen.

My eyes then veered down toward the floor where stone tiles shifted on a track along with two clock hands; moving every second in a counter-clock-wise direction, they formed a giant clock in the middle of the chamber. I stood for a long moment starring; my vision dazing in and out as if I were being put into a trance. What does this mean? A clock that goes backwards?

“Hey, who’s that?”

Breaking from my thoughts, I lifted my head to Ellie who was pointing toward the opposite side of the chamber. Following the direction of her point, I could vaguely see an outline of someone, or something.

Whatever it was, it was small like a midget and it appeared to be looking for something.

“A priest perhaps?” Delita answered in question as he walked up to my side.
