I sat on the concrete wall of my private balcony and watched as Kellin ran around with the pack pups. I chuckled as one especially rambunctious pup knocked Kellin to the ground, prompting all of the others to pounce on him.

"Come on, guys! This isn't fair!" Kellin intoned in his squeaky voice.

After watching the children completely ignoring Kellin as they used him as a jungle gym for a little while, I decided it was time to intervene. I leaped down from my third story balcony and landed on my feet in front of the dog pile - no pun intended.

I let out a shrill whistle and watched as the pups scattered to either side of Kellin, immediately shifting back to their human forms. I pulled Kellin up and placed a protective arm around his waist.

"Well, well. What have you kids been up to?"

They all gave me innocent looks. "Nothing, Alpha."

I chuckled and shook my head. "Alright, guys. Go play."

No sooner than the kids were out of sight, Kellin dropped the fake smile from his face and shoved me away from him. I frowned at his clear show of disgust.

"Why'd you do that?"

He made a face. "You know why. Because I can't stand your touch. It makes me sick. You make me sick."

I pursed my lips in frustration. "That is so mean. And you know you don't mean it."

He snorted. "Yeah, actually, I do. I didn't like you before we became mates and I sure as hell don't like you now."

I snorted in anger as I stomped away from Vic. I was in no mood to deal with him right now. Not after last night. Not after the argument half of the freaking pack had to have heard, especially since we weren't being particularly quiet.

"Come on, babe, it won't be that bad."

I glared at him. "Don't you 'babe' me. You and I both know it's never gonna happen. And you and I both know why. Or did you happen to forget already?"

He blinked. "Why are you being so hostile about this whole situation?"

I went bug-eyed and stomped over to him. "Between you and the Moon Goddess, my life has been ruined within a matter of days! A week ago, I was perfectly happy. I had a boyfriend. I had friends. I was normal. Then, my eighteenth birthday rolled around and everything went to hell in a handbasket. I find out I'm the alpha's mate. I find out my body is going to undergo changes so I can give you children. My boyfriend broke up with me. And, to top it all off, you claimed me in front of the entire fucking pack. So, why is it that I can't be a little upset, Vic?"

"Little is an understatement," he muttered to himself.

I resisted the urge to scream and yank my hair out as I glared at him.

He cocked his head to the side and sat up on his bed. "You know, it isn't quite fair that you're blaming all of this on me. It's not my fault the Moon Goddess has a sense of humor. If you remember correctly, I was engaged before I turned eighteen. Then, I lost everything - just like you recently have. Veronica and I decided to break off the engagement once I realized she wasn't my mate, which really made our parents happy." He rolled his eyes at his own sarcasm. "Anyway, it turned out Veronica was seeing her mate, Jaime, behind my back anyway. Strangely enough, I couldn't - and still can't - find it in myself to be angry with her about it. But it was still a blow to my ego. A very big blow since Jaime is one of my worst enemies."
