After Janet had finished her shower and got dressed in night clothes she waited in the living room for Toni. Minutes later there was knocking on the hotel room door. Opening it she lets Toni in.
"What's wrong? What happened to your arm," Toni panicked.
Janet smiled a faintly remembering how worrisome Toni could be.
"April and I got into a fight I'm fine."
Toni huffed as rage ran through her body. Janet touched her shoulder reassuring her that she was okay. Toni nodded and sat next to her on the couch.
"What happened?"
"I don't know. One minute we're arguing then I'm being pushed against the wall and down to the floor. She lashed out when I called her a fucking idiot."
Toni's hands balled into fists as her jaw clenched.
"That's why I called you over here. Toni you know I've never been handled like that. It was like she was possessed. Her eyes were filled emptiness and dark as ever. I wa...I'm still scared Toni," Janet said as tears fell from her eyes.
Toni pulled her into a warm embrace running a hand through her hair.
"Hey, hey it's going to be okay," Toni cooed.
No matter how long they had been apart, Toni still couldn't stand to see Janet cry. It was like a tearing of the heart.
"Why Toni? Why would she just handle me like that," Janet cried hugging Toni tighter.
Toni couldn't answer. People did unimaginable things a lot without a reason so, she couldn't answer Janet's question.
All she could do was comfort her the best she knew how. After 30 minutes of sobbing Janet lifted up wiping her face. Her eyes were bloodshot red.
"You okay," Toni asked rubbing her back.
Janet didn't answer she just kissed her. Toni's eyes widened at the sudden action and pulled away standing. She shook her head crossing her arms and rubbing them.
"Janet you know we can't do that. We would be crossing the line, and you would regret it. So please just don't do that," Toni said softly.
"I'm so sorry Toni. I don't know what came ov-" Janet started.
"You're hurting and you need someone to fill that empty void. It's okay Janet I know. I'm not mad. You should go get you some rest. I know you're tired. I'll sleep on the couch."
Janet nodded and stood going to her bedroom and getting into bed. She layed down staring at the ceiling running everything that had just happened through her head. She was knocked out of her thoughts to the sound of her phone vibrating on the dresser.
Nadia's name flashed across the screen. She hesitated, but then picked it up and answered it. She didn't say anything until she heard Nadia's voice.
"Janet it's me. What happened? April is lashing out. She's saying it's all Toni's fault and that she's going to kill her. Janet she's going crazy," Nadia whispered.
"I know Nadia and I'm scared. She grabbed me and slammed me against the wall and knocked me to the floor. My arm still hurts," Janet replied, "Why are you whispering?"
A short silence was heard then Nadia spoke, "Janet there's something I need to tell you. I'm with April right now so, I can't tell you all of it on the phone. I'm sending you the link in email now."
Within seconds Janet received a email.
"Janet there's some things that you don't know about Ap..." Nadia started, but was interrupted by April.
"Who are you on the phone with Nadia," April's voice sounded through the phone.
Janet's breath hitched in her throat as she heard April's voice. Why was she so scared? She had never felt this much terror in her life.
"I'm on the phone with my cousin Kayla. She's not doing well so I gave her a call," Nadia lied.
Janet silently thanked her.
The line was silent until she heard a loud scream.
"April stop," Nadia yelled.
Janet jumped as her heart started to beat faster. She got up out of bed and ran into the living room. Toni was already asleep on the couch, but this was urgent. Janet nudged her making her wake up. Toni glared at Janet until she saw how scared she was.
"Janet what's wrong?"
Janet shushed her and put the phone on speaker.
"Somebody help me," Nadia screamed, "April please stop! Why are you doing this? Please let me g..." Glass shattering and a loud thud was heard.
Silence took over the line. Did April just kill Nadia?
Shuffling was then heard followed by heavy breathing.
"Janet baby are you still there," April asked.
Janet's body trembled in fear. She didn't reply. April was growing irritated.
"Janet! I know you're still there! Answer me," She yelled.
Janet flinched clinging onto Toni.
"Baby I'm sorry for yelling just please talk to me. I didn't me to grab you like that. I'm sorry. Just please talk to me."
Janet still didn't reply.
"Janet! If you don't fucking answer me I w-" Toni grabbed tbe phone ending the call.
"Toni did she just kill that girl?" Janet began to panic.
Toni was stuck. She just kept replaying the whole call in her head.
"Oh my God she killed that girl! They were bestfriends! Toni what if she comes after me and kills me? Toni I'm scared! We have to call the police," Janet ranted grabbing her phone to see a text message.
Her heart stopped as she read it:
If you don't want to end up like Nadia I suggest you don't tell anyone. If you fail to keep this away from the authorities I will kill Mama Katherine. I know how much you love mommy. I also know you're with Toni. Let that bitch know I will have her head. I will send a text message telling you were to meet me and when. Don't pull any funny shit, or I will kill your mother. Have a nice night baby. Sweet dreams. 😘
Janet fell to her knees sobbing. She had total forgot her mother was coming to Hawaii tonight. Toni took the phone away from Janet reading the text message. Her hand covered her mouth as she read it. How psycho could this woman be?
She embraced Janet hugging her. "Hey look at me. I'm not going to let anything happen to you or your mother okay. I'm going to help you okay. You are not alone. I'm with you one hundred percent. I'm not letting anything happen to you."
Janet nodded hugging Toni.
"You promise," Janet sniffled.
Toni closed her eyes and hugged her tighter.
"I promise."
