"Elena, there's a new employee starting today with you. Technically, he's not new since he went to serve the army and he's back for a week," my aunt tells me.
"Really? Why would he want to work when he's getting a week long break from the military?" I wonder.
"Probably wants some extra money to spend," my aunt says before resuming her work in the kitchen.
I shrug and continue chopping up the pieces of steak into the plastic boxes before placing them inside of the warmer. I grab a wet dishcloth and begin wiping down the table. After, I throw it into the sanitizer bucket and leave it there.
"Hey there. Nice you meet you. I'm Julian the new guy."
I jump slightly from the sudden manly voice behind me and whirl around to see a tanned muscular Spanish man right next to me.
"Hey...." I say trailing off. "I'm Elena. Nice to meet you too! I've heard about you from Annie."
He nods and shakes my hand.
"Well aren't you a beauty?" he questions, even though it doesn't sound like he is questioning it.
"Don't call me that," I softly whisper before turning and leaving. "I don't want to start off on the wrong track, but you do seem like a player."
He laughs as he follows me, tying on his apron at the same time.
"I'll have you know... I'm quite charming, but never a player, beautiful."
I groan out. As of this moment, I know that he'd continue calling me that just because it annoys me so much.
"And I'll have you know, I'm not falling for that, Julian."

Later in the week, I came to realize that Julian was actually a great guy... almost as great as Sean, but not quite. There was something about Sean that made him different. He wasn't like other guys. He didn't openly stare at girls that walked past the food court. He simply didn't look at them like pieces of meat. Instead, he was polite and addressed each customer as madam or sir. Julian, on the other hand, was slightly egotistical. He knew he was cute and he used it to his advantage. He'd flirt with the female customers and talked to the male customers about his short modeling career before he served the army.
"I can't believe that you actually told him you modeled watches," I exclaim. "Lying is a crime, Julian."
"Hey, it's true. I'm actually a model when I'm not a serving our country, Elena. I might not look like I can hurt you with my charming looks and easy-going personality, but I can beat anyone in an arm wrestling match. The only person I'm slightly questioning my ability with is our manager Larson. He sure is petite, but he served in the army too," Julian tells me as he cuts the wraps up and packages them before handing the bag over to the customer standing at the cashier.
"Julian! Don't insult our manager. He's not petite... He's just shorter than most guys and skinnier that I am, but he's sure got the fiery personality to make up for it!"
"Hey beautiful, I'm not insulting anyone. The only one I'm teasing is you. I've been watching you and all I've seen you eat for lunch was a fruit and a couple fries. I'm pretty sure you're hungry right now."
"Stop with the nickname, Julian," I complain, pouting slightly. "You know I hate people calling me endearing nicknames when they don't mean it."
"But you are beautiful, Elena. You just don't see it," Julian replies and it sort of warms my heart up a little at his honest confession. "Denial is the strongest crime in the world, beautiful."
