Chapter 6

Mara

Then

I stared at Logan, my eyes wide.

“What does this mean? What is happening? Are you serious? I’m not going to go there. Seriously. I saw him… I saw him doing the thing to that girl!”

He only stopped dragging me towards Aiden there, turning to look at me, his eyebrows furrowed.

“The thing? What do you mean, the thing?”

“You know, the kissing and stuff… OH LOGAN YOU DID NOT JUST THINK THAT I MEANT THAT THING OH MY GOD YOU PERVERTED PSYCHOPATH ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW-”

I was cut off by Aiden’s beautiful, deadly laugh.

I stared at him as angrily as I could, willing my eyes to muster their angriest, most enraged glare they could.

He stared at me with a blank face.

Why was Logan doing this to me? I thought we were friends. What kind of best friend drags you to the stupid boy you hate?

Right. Logan.

With a wave directed at Aiden and a hopeful look, the blue-eyed traitor walked away from us, without even daring looking back. I hope he felt my eyes burning holes into his back.

I resigned to dealing with Aiden then. I turned around, my stance powerful and strong and all things independent, just like I always fancied myself to be, and then I saw his smile, and I knew my resolve to scream and shout and punch him until that smile was wiped clean off his face vanished. I was already tired of dealing with him, and I didn’t even know him. What a nice way to make a new friend.

“Shall we go? I know this really cool pizza place…”

I stared at him, dumbfounded.

He opened my door and I hopped in. He closed it, I rolled my eyes at him, and then he was at the driver’s seat, starting the old engine.

“I go there with my band mates. The pizza is really good. No jocks, no annoying people…”

I turned to look at him again, he was talking like nothing was wrong, so cool and collected, and I wondered how his mood had changed so quickly, from angry monster to cool band dude, while here I was, seething silently.

I left his words hanging in the air, turning into ice as I crossed my baggy, sweater covered arms on my chest. This douche bag wasn’t going to even get me to talk without screaming right now. I contented myself with looking at his profile, looking at his mouth evolve into a smirk. His full lips tempted me slowly, but I refused to look away. I refused to think. I just stared at him, without caring anymore if I was caught or not.

There are certain things the mind has no business in.

We pulled up at the pizza place across the library again- the same one I had run into him at before. He sighed before cutting the engine off, turning to look at me, and neither of us made a move of getting out of the car.

It was beautiful outside. It was chilly, yet golden. The sun was shining lightly on everything, making his hair look an odd shade of red at the tips. His eyes looked sharper as well. Everything was so focused. I was so aware of everything, and nothing at the same time.
