Chapter 9

Mara

Then

I was too busy grinning like an idiot as I walked out of the backyard to notice Luna running towards me, screaming.

“What? What is it? What’s happening? What?” I asked her, quickly sobering up from my happy drunkenness. I looked at her face in one second, scanning her makeup. No smudged eyeliner, no pimple, no running mascara. Everything seemed fine.

It was when I scanned her pink smudged lipstick that I finally noticed what the screaming was about.

“Who was it? Who did you kiss this time?” I asked, suddenly not interested as much. Luna getting some at parties wasn’t something new nor interesting, for that matter.

“That’s the thing. I didn’t kiss anyone… a very drunk Logan did.” She spoke quietly, looking down at her shoes. I sighed, grimacing. I knew it.

I took her shoulders, shaking her awake from her staring contest with her shoes.

“When did this happen? How do you know he’s really drunk? How did it even happen?” I asked, perplexed. Logan wasn’t the party type of guy. It struck me as odd, at least, that he would get trashed in this place of all places. And kiss Luna as well? Impossible.

“We were just talking in the balcony, outside the kitchen you know? And we were just talking about how Aiden punched Nicholas like a psycho, and we didn’t know where you were, and I turned to ask him something and he just leant in and kissed me.” She sounded oddly serious. So she wasn’t kidding.

“But how? Did he just steal it quickly, or did you see it coming…” I left my words hanging in the air at Luna’s expression. She looked like a guilty Luna right about now.

“Oh, Luna…” I brought my hands up to my face, ignoring my makeup disaster, dragging my hands over my forehead tiredly.

“I saw him move closer, okay? I saw his eyes. They were pretty and his eyebrows did his very Logan thing and he held my hand and it was so quick-”

I cut her off with a snort.

“Are you serious right now? Why didn’t you just back off? You know you like to play all those guys. Don’t play Logan like that. Even if you think he was drunk. Maybe he needed the extra courage.” I got scared for a moment, thinking I resembled Aiden, that rooftop night.

“You know Logan is our friend. Not some guy you can have and throw away the next day.” I finished, ranting at her now.

Why do people see these things coming, about to happen, and don’t stop it?

“Maybe I wanted him to kiss me.”

I looked at her, my eyes wide.

“Seriously?” I asked, my eyebrows raised.

“Seriously. I think I kind of have nice fluffy feelings you know like the unicorns and flowers I kind of get it now–”

I cut her off with a squeak and a hug.

“THIS IS, LIKE, AMAZING. THIS RIGHT HERE LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, IS LUNA FALLING IN LO-O-O-VE” I sang the last part, like in that british boyband song. I smiled at her disgusted expression.

“EWWWWWWW GET IT AWAY FROM ME TAKE IT OFF!!!!”

“THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!!!!” I yelled at the top up my lungs, both of us laughing like maniacs as we looked up at the rainy sky.
