Chapter 12
Aiden
Now
I walked briskly to my truck, my head spinning. Hangovers were never fun.
I'd spent only 48 hours in this stupid town again, and that was all it took to remember her.
Remember her hair, her beautiful, green eyes. It had always been difficult, us. we had always been difficult together, and I had never thought we would fall apart, because I knew a relationship this difficult wouldn't happen with anyone else.
So all I'd done since I'd gotten back was get drunk with my high school best friend, Ian. I'd come home to find her everywhere, strewn across my pick up truck, sitting in my living room, laying on my bed. Why deal with everything that reminded me of her, if I could drink it all away?
I slipped in and out of consciousness, my mind swimming with her face. I woke up, finally, looking for her, only to remember she would never be here again.
I hadn't seen her since a year ago- a year before everything changed. Going away for college after having left her for the last time tore me apart, and all I did was pretend she didn't hurt me anymore, even when she wasn't there.
But how could you stop hurting, when what hurt you was in yourself?
I got out of bed lazily, dragging myself to the bathroom. I looked up to meet my own tired eyes staring back at me.
My hair was cut short, my eyes tired out, my scarred eyebrow showing permanently. I'd kept in shape during freshman year at college still- nothing had changed much. Though now than I thought of it better, none of the jeans from high school fit me right- they ran too short on my legs. I sighed, exasperated.
How was I supposed to come across her looking like this?
I shook my head out, telling myself that I wouldn't come across her, even if this town was the size of my thumb. I took a quick shower, got dressed, and drove to the pizza place. It was already after noon, and I was ravenous.
I sat down on a booth, when a familiar waitress came to take up my order.
"Hello, and welcome. What would you like to drink today?" She didn't even look up from her notepad, and I smirked, anticipating her reaction to me.
"Hello, Mandy. I'd like a Coke," I replied, smiling as she turned her head up with a shocked expression to stare at me. She checked me out discreetly, her eyes scanning me.
"AIDEN! IT'S BEEN SO LONG!" She leant down to hug me, her boobs hanging out of her uniform. I smiled, feeling an inward grimace growing. Classy.
"Just a year, not that long…" I said, my voice hoarse as I tried my hardest to hide the lump that was now lodged in my throat.
"Oh, right! Its seems like ages, though. Ever since you gradua-" I cut her off quickly, a fake laugh on my lips.
"Yeah, you're right! It does seem like ages." I beamed at her.
"Yeah… Anyway, you'll have the usual, right?" I nodded. "Coming right up!" She smiled, and walked off to another table. I grinned, and as soon as she turned, my head was on the table, my hands squishing my eyes in.

I got the check, and after a wave from Mandy, I left. Today was the Town Easter Egg Hunt, and everyone was going. I was supposed to go and have lunch with my aunt and grandparents who were still alive anyway, along with every other family there, but I cut them to it. I didn't want to waste any extra time there. More time meant more risks of coming across her, and I wasn't going to be held responsible for my actions.
