The funeral for Theodred was held at dawn. I watched along with the others as Theodred was buried. As Theodred was lowered into the ground I could feel the emotions of everyone. It was making me feel distress and upset. The Fellowship had stayed behind with Grandfather and Theoden. We remained silent as we all watched Theoden as he remained still as he held a single flower in his hands.
"Simbelmyne, ever has it grown on the tombs of my forebears... now it shall cover the grave of my son, alas that these evil days should be mine, the young perish and the old linger, that I should live to see the last days of my house." Theoden said as he let the flower drop from his hands and onto his sons grave.
"Theodred's death was not of your making." Grandfather said in a reassuring tone. "No parent should have to bury their child." Sadness filled the king as he crumbled to the ground, sobbing.
Soon we went inside, Legolas was attending to the cuts and bruises that were caused by Grima because for some reason my wounds didn't heal like they used to which was weird. As each of his gentle fingers touch my skin it sent shivers down my spine. He looked up to me and smiled and said "It's better now." I smiled back and said "Thank you." Then my attention was drawn to the door. Theoden entered and took his seat by his throne beside Grandfather. Then Eowyn came into the room with two children. Eowyn had these two kids, a small boy and a young girl some blankets and each something to eat.
"They had no warning, they were unarmed now the wild men are moving through the west-fold burning as they go rick cot and tree." Eowyn said as she wrapped the girl in a blanket. "Where is momma?" the little girl asked. "Shh..." Eowyn said lightly next to the girl. I quickly made my way to the little girl and said "Your mama will be here, I promise." the little girl smiled at me. Gimli looked at me and said "You know, you should not tell her such things that may not happen." I playfully hit Gimli's shoulders and said "Aww... come on Gimli. Give the kid some hope."
"This is but a taste of the terror that Saruman will unleash all the more potent for he is driven mad by fear of Sauron, ride out and meet him head on. Draw him away from your women and children, you must fight!" Grandfather said as he turned to Theoden. "You have two thousand good men riding north as we speak. Eomer is loyal to you, his men will return and fight for their king." Aragorn said.
Theoden quickly got up in frustration. "They will be three hundred leagues from here by now, Eomer cannot help us, I know what it is you want of me, but I will not bring further death to my people... I will not risk open war." "Open war is upon you whether you would risk it or not." Aragorn declared.
With Aragorn's comment Theoden turned and walked towards Aragorn. "When last I looked Theoden not Aragorn was King of Rohan." I stood in front of Aragorn and said "Then make a wise decision my king." Theoden's eyes shot back at me with clear anger.
There was silence for a few minutes, but then Theoden opened his mouth to say. "We make for Helms Deep." I looked at everyone and saw that most of the fellowship were kinda annoyed. "Where's helms deep?" I asked but nobody answered so I followed grandfather out of the door of the main building.
"Helms Deep!" Grandfather mocked King theoden. "They flee to the mountains when they should stand and fight! Who will defend them if not the king?" Gimli shouted.
"He is only doing what he thinks is best for his people, Helms Deep has saved them in the past." Aragorn said as he walked beside Grandfather. "That's what he thinks." I said not knowing what I was suppose to say since I have no idea where and what is Helms deep.
"There is no way out of that revien Theoden is walking into a trap and he thinks he's leading them to safety what they will get is a massacre, Theoden has a strong hold but I fear for you. I fear for the survival of Rohan, he will need you before the unknown, the people of Rohan will need you, the defenses have to hold." Grandfather told Aragorn as he made it to Shadowfax.
Aragorn nodded his head. "They will hold."
Grandfather turned to Shadowfax and stroked his side. "The Grey Pilgrim, that's what they used to call me, three hundred lives of men have I walked this earth and now I have no time." he said quietly. Aragorn opened the gate that kept Shadowfax in his stables. "With luck my search will not be in vain look to my coming at first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the East." Grandfather said as he quickly mounted Shadowfax. "Woaahh! You're leaving us again grandfather?" I asked as I held shadowfax' mouth. He smiled and said "We will be reunited my dear, for now I leave you in the hands of three men... Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas."
I sighed and slowly let go of Shadowfax and nodded my head and whispered. "Go."
Grandfather left quickly speeding away on his horse. I looked out where grandfather was riding and whispered to the wind "Guide him and protect him." Aragorn put a hand on my shoulder and said "It was brave of you to let him go, you lost him and regain him. I know it is hard for you but I'm sure this time that he'll be back just when we need him." I smiled. Gimli and Aragorn walked out leaving me and Legolas. I was about to walk out but Legolas grabbed my hand spun me around and I ended up in his arms with our chests touching. Our lips just an inch apart with my hands on his chest and his arms around my waist and he whispered "I haven't forgotten my promise to protect you." We looked into each others eyes then he pulled away and left me speechless. I walked slowly towards the main building and as soon as I entered the building my eyes turned towards Eowyn, she was looking through a trunk and pulled out a sword. She unsheathed it and held the blade up and she admired it. She began to swing the blade, once, twice, and on the third swing it clashed into the blade of another. Aragorn stood in front of Eowyn, blocking her blade with his own.
"You have some skill with a blade." Aragorn said. Eowyn looked at Aragorn before swinging her blade and pointing the tip at Aragorn. Aragorn seemed unfazed by her but he only lowered his deadly dagger. Eowyn quickly turned away and put her sword back in its sheath.
"Women of this country learned long ago, those without swords could die upon them, I fear neither death nor pain." Eowyn quickly placed her sword in the chest. "What do you fear my Lady?" Aragorn asked. Eowyn turned to him and said. "A cage, to stay behind bars until used and old age accepts them and all chance of Valor has gone beyond record and desire."
"You're a daughter of kings, a shield maiden of Rohan." Aragorn said as he placed his dagger in its sheath. "I do not think that would be your fate." Aragorn bowed his head before he left, his eyes quickly meeting with mine as he exited the main hall.
I looked at Eowyn and I saw admiration, joy, and love in them. I approached Eowyn and asked "You love him don't cha?" she turned to me and bowed and said "I may, but I'm not certain." I smiled and leaned on a pillar and said "Aragorn's heart is taken, but I won't stop you from loving him cause you will stop yourself." Her eyebrows came together and she said "Once you Love you can never stop."
I sighed and said "True, but what if you don't stop but you just have to ignore your feelings because it's just not meant to be."
Eowyn looked at me with sad eyes and said "I know, but if you feel that way why don't you just tell the person you love?" I looked at her and said "Cause I fear when I die he will also die." she gasped as I said 'he will also die'
"I love your spirit and bravery Eowyn but don't think the world is easy to take on." I said she smiled and said "It never was... Come! I will give you a new dress for you to wear." As she grabbed my hand and lead me to a room and gave me a green dress.
I quickly got ready and went down the stairs to meet the rest of the fellowship. Aragorn looked at me and said "Ella, you stay beside Legolas, while me and Gimli protect the people." I sighed and as I got near my horse Legolas helped me up my horse my holding my waist. He got the leash for the horse and we both led the crowd since Legolas is the scout. I had two daggers with me and my bow and arrows.
"You don't have to ignore me... I can tell you are ignoring me so you won't hurt me in the end but believe me you're not gonna." Legolas said. I looked over at him "I.. I.. know... Legolas, it's just that I..." I try saying but I couldn't tell him my feelings. Maybe it's just not the right time.
