(A/N: luke is so hot i gtg)

Luke had told Ray that he would be talking to his music teacher for a second after class, but after what feels like ten minutes, but was probably three, Ray decides that he's taking too long. Fortunately for her, most students immediately rushed to their lunch tables, so no one was really in the hallway.

The girl walks away from the doorway of her art class and, knowing that there's a wall in front of her, she sticks her hand out to feel it before her face does.

Ray lets her hand drag across the wall and slowly walks until it vanishes from under her palm. She knows that all she has to do is make a left and there'd be a table for her. It's not the table Luke usually takes her to, but it's a table and she just wants to sit and wait for Luke, instead of loitering by her classroom door.

Her shin bumps against the seat and she sighs in relief as she places her hands on it and carefully takes a seat. Ray doesn't hear the uncomfortable scuffling of shoes and lunch trays, so she safely assumes no one's at the table with her.

She sits, idly tapping on the tabletop and humming her favorite song of the day. She wants to be mad at Luke for being late--because, really, what if there was an emergency, like a fire?--but all she does is feel alone and kind of sad that he's not beside her making dumb jokes.

As Ray goes to lay her head on the table, she hears Luke call her name. She straightens up and smiles. Though he doesn't sound happy, she's glad to hear him.

"Did someone walk you?" Luke asks, sounding both incredulous and like a father scolding his child for getting a ride home from a stranger. Ray gives a small chuckle, which is really just a huff of air.

"No, I used my legs," She pats her knees to emphasize her words. "These two still work, y'know." Ray adds, smiling in his direction. Luke shakes his head and sits down, much closer than he used to and Ray likes that.

"Alright, smartie, you know what I meant." He says, as he pulls a bag of apple slices from his backpack. He's glad he thought to bring them, despite the fact that he feels like a five year old, because now he doesn't have to leave Ray to get his lunch.

Ray rolls her eyes and leans on his arm. "You mean how did I get to the table without dying?" She questions, scrunching up her brows when she feels Luke gently push her off of him. Ray relaxes when he puts his arm around her and lets her rest against his side.

He hums as if to tell her that she's right and Ray smiles when she feels the vibration it makes. She probably wont say it to anyone but Ashton, but she has a bit of a crush on Luke, which is weird because she's only known him for not even two weeks and she doesn't know what he looks like.

Which, it doesn't really matter what he looks like, but without vision she doesn't know what face to imagine she's with in her head.

"I've walked through the school before, like during the open house and stuff, so I remember how to get from art to here." Ray explains. Luke hums again, then pops an apple slice into his mouth.

"Sorry, by the way, about being late." He apologizes around the Granny Smith. Ray shrugs, jostling his arm the tiniest bit. He softly squeezes her to his side in response, making her grin.

It's not like she even really needs him, at least to walk to lunch. It's just easier--and better--with Luke because she doesn't have to worry about awkwardly sitting next to a stranger or anything. That doesn't happen often, nor does she notice much when it does, since everyone usually quietly slinks away, but there'll be people that think it's hilarious and Ray doesn't like being laughed at.

They sit quietly while Luke eats his apples, until Ray feels like making conversation. "Did I tell you that I took a mobility training class?"

Luke looks down at her with his eyebrows nearly meeting in the middle of his forehead. He swallows the apple in his mouth before speaking this time.

"What's that?" He inquires. Luke feels like the answer to that is fairly obvious, but, then again he's probably wrong so in order to save face, he asks the person who actually knows.

Ray tells him that the classes teach you how to travel by yourself, how to use a cane or a guide dog, and how to ride buses and things like that. She proudly tells him the story of when she rode the bus alone--with her cane. She'd only done it once, but she knows how; she can still do it.

The boy laughs at how enthusiastically she talks about the short bus ride and he realizes he loves to see her light up. He's glad that she can't see how much he's smiling at her, because he's doing it way more than he should. Luke tends to take advantage of the fact that she can't see him when doing things he wouldn't want her to see, like when he stares at her without blinking or when his jaw drops when she wears a skirt that shows off her great legs.

By the time lunch ends Luke only has one apple slice left, since he spent most of his time listening to Ray and didn't focus on eating, and he gives it to her. She eats it as they stand up and start for the hallway.

"Hey, I have a sub for my science class, so can I just stay with you during your history class?" He asks, swinging their hands once she takes his in hers. Ray nods, then stops her steps when she feels her phone buzz in her back pocket.

Luke would get it for her, but he doesn't want to come off as fresh for just sliding his hand back there. Fortunately, she gets it herself, holding it up for Luke to see who it is.

"It's Ashton." He says, pulling her to the wall with him so that they aren't in anyone's way. Ray presses the answer button and puts the phone to her ear.

"Yeah?" She greets, well, greets in her own way as she lets go of Luke's hand. He puts his hands in his pockets since he doesn't know what to do with them at this point.

Ashton starts off with a point, then starts spiraling into something completely irrelevant, so Ray brings him back to when he was saying that the car is acting up. He clears his throat and restates the obvious, then tells her to see if Luke can bring her home.

Ray moves the mic end of the phone away from her mouth and reaches out until Luke takes her hand to show her that he's still there. She thinks for a moment that it could be anyone, really, but she feels his pinky ring and instantly throws all doubt out the window.

"Our car's being a piece of crap, can you take me home today?" She smiles when she hears Ashton immediately shout something about respecting the car. Yeah, she'll respect it when it can go a month without breaking down.

Luke chuckles as he nods. She didn't even have to ask, if Luke's honest. If she had followed him to his car without a word he would simply open the door for her.

The bell rings at the same time Ray begins to let Ashton know that Luke's going to drive her, drowning out her voice. She repeats herself while Luke tugs her along to class, then hangs up once she confirms, for the second time, that she wont be stuck at school.

During history class and the ride home, Ray thinks about how happy she is that her old guide, whose name she doesn't even remember, had moved.
