"He should be home, so if he is, just don't start anything, okay?" Ray doesn't like that she feels like she's starring in a Tyler Perry movie, as she picks her backpack up from the floor of Luke's car.

Luke had taken her home, just like he said he would, and after Luke parked in the driveway—because a part of him is so childish that he couldn't not—they sat in the Avalon so that Ray could set down some rules.

In all honesty they were more like suggestions, but Ray felt more official deeming them rules.

Nodding, Luke takes his key out of the ignition. That's sign number one that he's thinking too much about what he wants to say to Ashton. Remembering that she can't see, he distractedly responds while he opens his door. "Yeah."

Ray can tell that he's not really listening, shaking her head as she climbs out after him. "Seriously, Luke, none of that overreacting, Lifetime crap." She makes another attempt to get him to listen, cautiously making her way to the front door, where she knows he already is.

"Uh-huh."

Yeah, he's not tuned in.

Sighing, Ray fishes her keys out of her pocket, but pauses when she feels Luke wrap an arm around her waist and usher her to the porch. She chooses to not bring it up and instead hands him the key to unlock the door.

"You can stay downstairs if you want—"

"You put your hands on her?" Luke quickly cuts her off, removing his arm from Ray's middle and stalking closer to Ashton, who's coming down the steps.

Ray scrambles to get a grip on Luke's forearm, shirt, anything she can reach and hold so that he doesn't get to Ashton. "On everything I love, if y'all fight I'm never talking to either of you again!"

The thought of two people she really cares about beating each other up, in front of her, scares her way more than she'll admit to anyone. She's blind; she won't know where to go to get out of the way, or when the fight needs to be stopped. Ray doesn't have time for their foolishness.

Luke looks down at her while he tries to regulate his now shakier and heavier breathing, stepping back. Ashton, seemingly unfazed, per usual, crosses his arms as he stands on the last stair.

"Did you bring him over to scare me, or something?" He asks, blinking at Luke then turning his attention to the brown girl.

She shakes her head, because, no, she didn't. In fact, she specifically told Luke not to come inside and act a fool when they were in the car. Ashton doesn't seem afraid in the slightest anyhow, so if she had brought Luke for that, it probably wouldn't have worked—no offense to Luke, of course.

"No, he just wanted to come with me to get my stuff." She says, letting go of the hem of Luke's t-shirt.

Ashton unfolds his arms, furrowing his brows. "Get your stuff—what are you talking about?" Ray starts up the stairs, staying close to the wall to avoid bumping into Ashton.

"I'm gonna stay at my parents' house for a couple days." Ray explains, wondering why she felt that she needed to explain anything to him. At the moment, nothing she does is his business; it's hardly his business at all what she does, whether they're talking or not.

Ashton doesn't reply, deciding to roughly brush past Luke on his way out the front door. It takes Luke everything he has to not open the door that Ashton slammed closed and tell him a thing or two.

Ray lifts her head when she hears Luke come into her room. She couldn't care less that Ashton's not fond of her sleeping at her own home, so when he stormed out, she simply continued to pull sleepwear out of her drawers.

She brings her clothes to her bed, then goes to her closet to grab a bag to put them in. Ray isn't bringing many of them, and she knows she can come back here if she ends up staying over there for longer than she intends to. Which, she doesn't know exactly how many days she'll be with her parents, but she's going with two for now.

"Wow, are all of your pants and skirts black?" Luke asks, lifting a pair of her black jeans to see more black ones underneath. He can't help but warmly smile at the small pile, finding it oddly endearing that there isn't a square inch of blue denim in sight, much like with his pants drawer.

"They're black so that I don't have any trouble getting things to look good with my shirts," Ray tells him, putting her pajamas and day clothes into her bag. "Do you know how ridiculous I would look if I accidentally put on a blue skirt with, like, a shirt that was almost the same blue?"

When she was younger her parents just made sure that she had regular jeans, but now that she's older, she's found that she prefers black ones. Her shirts, though, sweaters and sweatshirts included are every color under the sun. They're mostly solid colors, some with dual colored patterns, but they're all capable of looking nice with her black pants, shoes, and backpack.

Luke chuckles as he scrunches up his eyebrows, "What? What's wrong with that; they're both blue."

"People are gonna think I tried to match the blues, Luke, I'ma look a mess." Ray grins as she zips up her duffel.

They fall into silence while Ray grabs an extra pair of sneakers from her closet, almost forgetting that she'd need and want shoes besides the sandals she's wearing. As she rearranges the clothes in her bag so that she can fit the shoes in, Ray realizes that she's actually packing to get away from Ashton for once.

Their families have taken more than one out-of-state trip together, so, packing isn't an unusual feeling, but it's the fact that this time, it's not to be with her best friend. Though she doesn't care that he's upset, that's still who he is to her, and she thinks now is the worst time to remember that.

Ray is about to pick up her bag when she feels Luke put his arms around her to hold her from behind. She giggles as she sways with him for a moment, a sad smile forming on her lips.

"You okay?" He asks, after pressing a kiss to the back of her head. And, yes, she is. But she's not happy that her and Ashton aren't happy with each other. She nods, turning to face him.

He smiles down at her, blue eyes running over her face. "Good," Luke gives her a quick kiss before throwing her bag over his shoulder. "Come on." He takes her hand and leads her back down the stairs and out the door.

Ray is glad she doesn't have to do all of this stuff by herself. She likes that, along with Calum and Michael and her parents, she has people that she can rely on.

Luke walks her across the lawn and kisses her goodbye after Ray gets the door open. She sighs to herself as she climbs the stairs, thinking of how to explain to her mom and dad why she's here and not next door.
