Ch. 2

"I am so sorry," Katie said. She was waiting for Mark to say 'what's wrong with you? Can't you watch where you're going?' But he didn't.

He simply said," It's cool." Mark held out his hand to help her up. Katie hesitantly took his hand suddenly self conscience about her weight. As soon as she touched his hand, a shiver ran down her spine. He pulled her up with ease.

"Thanks," was all Katie could manage out.

"You're welcome," he said before walking away. Katie stared after him for a little bit then walked the rest of the way to her locker. She took out her book for and walked to her first period class.

"Nice of you join us miss Smith. Please take your seat but first here's a detention slip," Mrs. Justine said in her old lady voice.

"Great detention, again," Katie mumbled as she walked to her seat. The only good part about this class was she got to sit by her best friend Leah. The worst part about the class- besides the teacher- was that Jack was in it. Jack has blonde hair with a little bit of curls in it. He has hazel eyes and was actually really cute if he wasn't Katie's enemy. But Katie wasn't worried about him right now she had to tell her friend about who she met in the hallway.

"Guess who I ran into while on my way to class today?" Katie asked.

"The boogeyman," Leah teased.

"Nope. Mark Evans."

"Shut up. Are you being serious?"

"Dead serious. And man are his abs hard!"

"Miss Smith, miss Johnson stop talking," Mrs. Justine screeched.

"Sorry," the girls said in unison. At this they laughed, but quietly enough so Mrs. Justine couldn't hear them. Katie drew a heart and a rough picture of Mark holding his hand out to pick her up. She was starting to make the drawing look better when the bell rang.

"Oh crud. I drew all through class," she exclaimed. "Hey Leah can I ..."

"Get the notes from me. Yes." Leah added," Cute drawing by the way."

"Thanks," Katie muttered. As much as her friends protested, Katie wouldn't believe that her drawings were any good. She could name a ton of people who were better artists than she. But when she got a compliment on her art she really took that to heart.

She was on her way to her locker when someone bumped into her. It wasn't like the accidental bumps that you get in a normal high school hallway; it was more like a purposeful bump because it actually kind of hurt. "Why don't you watch where you're going Katie?" someone said with disgust. Katie looked up and saw who it was.

"Maybe you should take your own advice, Jack," she spat back.

"Like I would listen to you. Now move out of the way," Jack said sternly.

"Make me!"

"Ok, I will," and with that he shoved Katie out of the way and kept walking down the hallway. Katie sat on the floor with an expression of 'did he really just do that?' She got up and brushed herself off.

"What a jerk!" Leah said.

"I know right. Why can't he just mind his own business?"

After that, the next four periods flew by and it was lunch time. Katie is sitting with her friends: Leah, Brooke, Drew, Alicia, and Alex. They were talking about what had happened to them so far that day. Of course the incident with Jack came up.

Jack's POV

I was standing in line just across from Katie's table. Someone was walking towards that direction with a plate of spaghetti in their hands and they were not watching where they were going. Just as he was about to pass I stuck my foot out making him trip which also made the spaghetti fly right into Katie. She was covered in it. Of course, I started laughing.

Katie's POV

I was laughing with my friends about random things when I look up and see something coming towards me. I had no time to react for as soon as I saw it I was covered in spaghetti. At this Jack started laughing and the next thing I knew almost the cafeteria of people started laughing. I say almost because my friends didn't laugh even though the boys- Alex and Drew- were trying to hold it in. I looked at were Mark was siting and even he was laughing. Girls worst nightmare to have the guy of your dreams laughing at you.

As soon as I saw him laughing, I stood up quickly to leave. When I did so, spaghetti fell to the floor with a Plop which made everyone laugh harder. Even Drew and Alex were laughing now while still trying to hide it. I looked over at Jack to see an evil grin on his face. I ran out of there knowing he was the reason Mark Evans was laughing at me, why everyone was laughing at me. I ran to the bathroom, went into the handicapped stall, sat down and cried.
