Ch. 8

Katie's POV

Today's car ride seemed extremely long. I know it wasn't but the anger, sadness, and awkwardness was just too thick. When Luke and I got to school, I rushed out of the car and slammed the door. "Hey Katie." Someone shouted my name. I turned around saw Mark waving at me. I walked over to him.

"I thought you weren't going to talk to me," I said.

"I could never do that. Your brother is gonna have to do a lot more than scare me to make me stop talking to you. "

"So you were scared," I giggled.

"You would have been too if you had been in that tight grip and staring in his eyes. I swear I thought he was gonna kill me." He kinda laughed but I could tell he really had been scared by my brother. The class bell rang and we went our separate ways. Even Jack's mocking and bullying couldn't ruin the way I felt right now. Mark was talking to me even though Luke had threatened him.

I went to first period, history, and sat by Leah. I told her about yesterday and about how Mark was still talking to me even though my brother looked like he wanted to kill him.

"You know you really should forgive Luke. He was just being a big brother. He was protecting you." Leah said.

"Protecting me from what? Mark?" I had a look of disgust on my face when I said, " Luke knows Mark is a good guy. For goodness sakes he plays football with him! He had no right to do what he did. It's going to take a lot to make me forgive him. "

Just then Mrs. Justine walked up to my desk, "Miss Smith if you want to yell go outside and while you're out there why don't you just walk to the principles office." She gave me a look and I stood up.

Jack yelled across the room," Haha. That's what you get you piece of trash."

Mrs. Justine whirled around,"Mr. Lavely how about you join her. " Oh great, not only do I get sent to the principles office but I have to go with Jack. We walked out the door, Jack making sure he went out first, and headed towards the office. Jack was grumbling about how he had to get sent to the office with the ugliest, most annoying, obnoxious girl in the whole school. He went to say more and that's when I stopped him.

"Shut up, Jack. It's not my fault you called me a piece of trash. "

"But it is your fault you are one," he spat. I looked at him with a shocked expression my face. He continued, "You think you're so perfect. 'Hey look at me, I'm gorgeous. I have tons of friends and I'm always happy. Did you also know that my brother is the captain of the football team? Ooh and even better is that I have a crush on Mark Evans and somehow we just happened to get partnered up to do a love scene for drama' " Jack mimicked my voice. I wanted to slap him but he said something that really hit me hard. "Get this Katie, not everyone has what you have. Some people don't have two brothers who love them or parents who are always there. Before you say your life isn't perfect just think about this. My mom left when I was three years old and I rarely get to see my dad and when I do he's exhausted from working 12 hour days. Try to keep that in your head. "

With that Jack stormed off leaving me there in utter shock. After coming out of my daze, I continued walking to the principles office. I explained what happened and thankfully he let me off with a warning. I got a note excusing me from being late to my next class. When I got there, I sat down in my seat next to the window. This class is so boring.
