Ch. 12
Katie's POV
I can't believe tonight's the homecoming dance. My dreams were about to come true. The talk of the school has been about Mark and I going to the dance together. Did I ever mention that Mark is really popular?
As I stare at my knee length, white lace dress with black applique flowers and a beaded, black ribbon, I imagine the absolute best for tonight (link to see the dress at the bottom). Mark would be here at seven to pick me up and it was already 5:30. I still had to do my hair, my makeup and get dressed in an hour and a half. Let's do this.
I curled my hair going for a more natural look rather than I'm-desperate-please-look-at-me style. I then proceeded to take tiny, white, plastic flowers and pin up pieces of my hair. When my hair looked exceptional, I moved to the makeup. I only added a little bit of mascara and lip gloss because I'm really not one for makeup. After putting on my dress, I grabbed my black homecoming shoes with a 1" heel since I'd probably trip in anything taller than that.
I checked in the mirror and gasped at who I saw. The girl I saw was completely different from who I usually see. I'm the kind of girl who usually wears shorts and a t-shirt and had her hair in a ponytail or braid but I could get used to this style. Just as I was completing a few finishing touches, there was a knock on the door. I opened it to find a very attractive looking Mark Evans standing there.
Who am I kidding? He looked HOT!
His red-brown hair was spiked up and his black tux made his hazel-blue eyes shine out. Plus he was wearing a bow tie. How much more amazing can this guy get? He took my hand in his, bent down and kissed it. I just about melted on the spot.
"Are you ready to go, beautiful? " He asked, emphasizing the word beautiful. Somebody catch me! I nod my head and try to calm myself. My heart is beating fast and so loud that I'm sure he can hear it. Mark gives me a heart-melting smile and leads me out of the house never once letting go of my hand. As soon as I step outside, I gasp at the gleaming white limo waiting for us.
"All this for me? " I question him.
Mark simply answers, " You deserve so much more! " This boy knows all the right words to say. He opens the door for me as I look inside the limo. The inside of the limo is even better than the outside. I stare amazed at the black leather seats and the roof that looked like the night's sky. There was music playing from the stereo and the floor was glowing purple.
"Wow," was all I could manage to get out. I probably would have gone on standing they're for awhile if Mark didn't clear his throat but not in a rude way. Climbing into the limo, I tried as hard as I could to hide my amazement. Never once, had I ridden in something so cool. Mark looked like this was an everyday thing.
Tapping lightly on the window that separated us and our driver, Mark casually said, "Harvey, we're ready to go."

We pulled up to the beautiful building that homecoming was being held at and I couldn't help but gasp. How did we convince the principal to have it here? Mark must have known what I was thinking because he simply said, "I may have convinced my dad to let the school rent this place for a lower price than normal. "
Staying in awe I question, "Your dad owns this place? " He nods his head and then grabs my hand. Harvey opened the limo's door and Mark helped me out of it. Walking hand in hand, Mark and I stroll into the building. He takes me straight to the ball room and I can't help but stand in wonder at how pretty it is in there.
I see my friends standing next to the food table and I lead Mark over to where they are. I smile at Leah and Pearson who were holding hands. Glancing to my left, I see Gayle shyly move some hair out of Brooke's face and I smiled at how apparent it was that he has fallen hard for her.
"Where's Drew and Alicia? " I asked noticing that they weren't here yet.
"No idea, " Alex commented his mouth full of food.
" You're disgusting." I whispered, "No wonder you don't have a date to the dance." He gave me a face.
After swallowing he added to the conversation, "I could've gotten a date if I wanted to but I didn't want to pay for two tickets. " Simply I gave him a look that said 'I don't believe you. ' He just rolled his eyes and smiled knowing I was joking.
Just then Brooke shouted, "Look it's Drew and Alicia!" She waved them over and I turned to see them. I was astounded.
Drew looked so different. He usually wears jeans, a band shirt and a jacket but he cleaned up very nicely. His curly light brown hair was messy but a neat kind of messy, if that makes any sense. The blue-grey shirt he was wearing made his green eyes stand out and it also held tight enough to his arm to show the muscle that was clearly hidden in his jacket. If you're assuming that I was falling for my closest guy friend, then you are dead wrong. I just wanted to point out the fact almost all the girls who had turned to look at Drew after Brooke screamed his name were taken aback. A few of them looked a little jealous of Alicia. I guess they never noticed how handsome he was before. Before I knew it, I was cracking up.
Mark looked over at me with concern, "Are you alright? "
"Yeah, I'm fine," I replied as I wiped the tears from my eyes, " I just remembered something really funny. "
"Okay, " he shrugged it off and put on a smile. "Would you like to dance? "
"Absolutely!" Smiling, I grabbed his hand and followed him onto the dance floor. We danced for what seemed like hours but was probably just twenty minutes. I tried to look like I knew what I was doing while dancing but failed miserably. Chuckling, Mark smiled at me. "What? " I asked while raising an eyebrow at him.
"You're just too cute, " he said still chuckling. As he said this, my face heated up and there was no doubt I was blushing beat red. Trying to hide my face, because I was embarrassed, I looked at the floor. Mark took his finger and lifted my chin, "Don't hide your face. I love it when you blush." This made me blush even more.
I was just about to leave the dance floor when a slow song played. "May I ?" Mark asked. I nodded my head. Being extremely nervous, I put my hands on Mark's shoulders and shuddered a little when he puts his hands on my waste. We started swaying gently to the speed of the music. "Hey, Katie, can I tell you something? " Mark enquired.
"Sure, tell me anything, " I responded dreading what he wanted to say. Maybe he's having a horrible time with me. He might want to tell me I was his last resort option to the dance.
He looked into my eyes and simply said, "I know we haven't known each other for a long time but I..I," pausing he cleared his throat. "I like you Katie. I've wanted to tell you for awhile now but I was too scared to. I didn't know if you liked me back and I thought if you didn't like me my whole world would fall apart." Still gazing into my eyes, "The only reason I've never talked to you before is because I was kinda scared that you wouldn't want to hang with me. After you said yes to my proposal for homecoming, I thought I'd actually have a chance with you. " Taking a breath he continued, " All of that to say, Katie, will you go on a date with me?"
I was rendered speechless. He's liked me all this time and I've never noticed. I opened and closed my mouth like a fish before I finally managed to peep out an answer. "I like you too, Mark. And I would love to go on a date with you. "

Sorry I haven't updated in a loooonnnggg time but I was having trouble getting an idea. When I finally did get an idea, it was too big to fit in one chapter so I split this chapter in two. I decided to post the first part so I didn't make you wait and any longer. Again very sorry for not updating for so long but I'll try to make the next update a whole lot sooner.
