The Confrontation . . .

" 'I'ma space bound rocketship and your heart's the moon. And I'm aiming right at you, right at you. Two hundred-fifty thousand miles on a clear night in June... and I'm aiming right at you, right at you, right at you.' "

I held out the last note as Eminem started the second verse of the song "Space Bound." I turned onto Shay's road, tapping my fingers on the steering wheel and humming along with him. I drove the short distance down the road and then parked outside of her house. I hit the horn twice, still humming away.

I started rapping along with him, getting lost in the truth behind his words. Soon, Shay came out of her house and then walked down the driveway towards my car, smiling cheerfully. She got in and I smiled kindly, not saying a word as I pulled away from her house.

She turned down the music,  receiving a crazy look from me. "Since when do you listen to Eminem," she asked curiously.

I shrugged nonchalantly, reaching over and turning it back up to the volume I had it.

"Okay," she drawled out, flipping down the sunvisor and staring herself in the mirror. She messed around with her eyeshadow, humming some random tune and completely ruining Eminem for me. "I wonder when Kayla will get to school," she continued to blab out loud to herself.

Frustrated, I punched the power button, turning off my music. It was time... it was definitely time.

I had rehearsed what I was going to say to her over and over inside my head, and then out loud this morning. Now was the perfect time to put that practice to use.

I signalled out of traffic and then pulled over on the side of the road. I turned off my car and sighed heavily. "Let's just get this out the way," I mumbled facing her.

"Why are we stopping, Chloe," she asked, looking at me in confusion.

"Look, there's something we need to talk about," I said to her, being as nonchalant as possible.

Emotions were inevitably unnecessary in situations like this. In order to get the truth from someone you have to mean business, otherwise, the conversation is useless.

She nodded, forming her lips into a tight line. "Sure, what do you want to talk about?"

"You hurt me, Shay," I said getting right to the point. "And we were supposed to be best friends! How could you do something like that?"

She sighed, as if knowing exactly what I'm talking about, and started shaking her head. "Wait, Chloe, you don't understand-"

I laughed humorlessly, causing her to clamp her mouth shut. "I am so sick and tired of people telling me that I don't understand," I said, my voice rising slightly.

I faced away from her and stared straight ahead. I needed to calm down. Getting upset isn't going to get anyone anywhere. Taking a few deep, calming breaths, I closed my eyes and tried to relax.

"Chloe, just listen to me," she started to say.

"No, Shay," I said whipping my head in her direction, the whole 'trying-to be-calm' thing flying right out the window. "You listen to me."

I said that with so much venom that she stared at me with wide eyes, her back pressed against the door.

I pointed a finger at her. "You knew, you knew, that I liked him! But you just had to become the biggest SLUT in the fucking world and kiss him RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME," I shouted, throwing my hands up in exasperation and hitting the roof of the car.
