Feeling the sunlight seek through the window. It's rays shine bright down waking me up from my slumber. I sit up off of the mattress rubbing my head my throat sore. My eyes follow along a hand resting on my side. Looking down at the peaceful sleeping man that lays beside me. I couldn't help but smile at my boyfriend. Brushing the hair out of his face, a sound down the hall way startles me. I hesitate to get up but my curious mind lets me explore. My legs wobble like jello as I put my combat boots on and tie my hair up. The stuff Calvin gave us last night are taking a toll on me. I can feel every inch of my body ache. I take my flannel off and tie it around my waist alongside my shorts. Leaving my shoulders bare with only a Cami.I went to the small bathroom to get some water. After sticking my head under the faucet and splashing water on my face. I used my flannel shirt to wipe the water off. Looking up into the cracked mirror my eyes are red as can be. I look horrible but I took the normal dose last night. I was debating whether or not to bring Nicky or leave him sleeping. But another noise echoed again and the more I wait the more impatient I was getting. I decided to go, if Nicky needed me he would find me. My feet drag across the wooden floor making it creek. Of course I wanted to stay quiet to find out what the noise was but being in a old abandoned church where the crack heads and juveniles stay you never know what your going to find. Something unsettling like a growl came from a different room. I lean up against the wall peering over I see a mans face demolished. My breathing picks up as I hear footsteps coming from where I was.
"Bree? Babe where are you?" I hear Nicky whisper.
"Nick?" My vision starts to get fuzzy.
"Hey you ok?" His warm arms wrap around me.
"Feeling really light headed right now. There was a noise from down here. Look over there." I face him. He looks worse then I do. He turns the corner and saw the man.
"Don't worry, I'll talk to Calvin about it. An animal must have gotten in here." We heard another growl.
"Must be still here." I whispered. I reach down and grab his hand as we walk through the chapel.
"Lets just get out of here." Then the growling sound like it was beside us. We turned the corner and Gloria was down next to someone.
"Hey Gloria we gotta go." Nick walks over to her but as she turns around she was covered in blood, eyes were foggy, and looks like she was eating that person that was on the ground.
"Run." Nick pushes me but I couldn't move. I was in shock. Gloria stood up and hobbled towards us as Nick pulled on my arm. Her eyes filled with hunger.
"Bree, we have to go."
We both run out the building through a window then go past the ally way to get out in the mild of the street. I'm hallucinating I tell my self. It's the drugs. But the amount of hits I've taken before has never made my mind like that. Calvin must have laced it. We turned the corner as I stop to get my head on straight but Nick kept running.
"Nick!" I yelled after him. He was going to run into traffic. A motorcycle drove right by him, he turns around and look straight at me as a car crashes right into him.
"Nicky!" I screamed as I run towards him. His body rolls off the car and hits the concrete ground with a thud.
"No. No. No. Nicky please don't be dead." I feel the tears rush down my face as the driver gets out and everyone crowds around us. I kneel down and set him in my lap. I move the hair out of his face as he blinks a couple of time.
"What happened? Are you ok? Where are his shoes? How old are you? Why were you running? Someone call 911. Whats your name? Whats his name?" These people I don't know ask questions but I just stay focused on Nick. I lost my parents, I'm not going to loss him.
