Iseldir nodded. His forehead creased subtlety. I could tell there was something he wanted to tell me, but wasn't going to.

"I'm sending Dwyn and Bellenos into the city tomorrow," the druid leader told me after a few seconds of silence. "We need to restock our supplies." I nodded. "Is there anything you need?" I turned my head to meet his eyes.

"No. Why do you ask?"  A glint in the old man's eyes told me he knew something that I didn't want him to know.

"Healer tells me that you've been taking on a more responsibility recently." He lifted his eyebrows. I shrugged, not understanding what he was hinting at. "He suspects people are confiding in you now." I thought back. Was he talking about Agrona?

"Is that bad?" I asked.

"No, no. I just thought supplies from the city would be useful."

I nodded slowly. Thoughtfully. "Yes, maybe you're right. I'll make a list and give it to Dwyn."

"I'm sure they would let you tag along if you wanted to get them yourself."

I felt my brow crease. "Do you want me to go into the city?"

Iseldir met my gaze evenly. I thought he would answer, but he didn't. "I'm sure Healer is looking for you. I believe it's time for your evening chores." He turned and headed back to the camp without waiting for me.

In the morning, I wrote out a list of things I thought Agrona might need before the next trip to the city. I gave it to Dwyn, a young man just a bit younger than me, just like I'd said I would.

Dwyn looked over it. "What do you need all this for?" he asked.

"None of your business," I snapped. Dwyn shrugged and went to meet Bellenos. "Bring it straight to me when you come back!" I called. He met my eyes and nodded once.

You didn't tell them, did you?

I jumped, startled. Agrona's voice in my head was like someone breathing down my neck. After regaining my composer, I shook my head. No. I turned around to face her. May I ask who the father is?

Bellenos. The woman pursed her lips.

Bellenos? I nodded. Does he know?

No.

I nodded again. "Let me have a look at your hand." I led her to Healer's tent so I could get extra bandages and salve. After taking the wrappings off, I looked at it carefully. "There are some signs of infection, but--."

"Is that bad?" she asked, cutting me off. "Is everything going to be alright?"

"Everything's going to be fine. I'll wash it out and put the salve on and wrap it back up. It should go away within three or four days."

What about the baby?

The baby should be fine, since we caught the infection before it spread. Like I said, everything's going to be fine.

What if it's not?

It will. I promise you I will do everything in my power to keep this baby safe and healthy.

I could see in her eyes that Agrona was still hesitant, but she finally nodded. "Can I go now?" she asked.

I nodded. "I'll check it again tonight."

The woman stood and nodded. Her eyes wondered momentarily in the direction of Camelot. "I should tell him soon," she murmured. Suddenly, she turned to me. "Do you ever miss your life in Camelot?" she asked.
