*Selena POV*

Seeing that most of the lights in the pack house were turned off, I made sure to shut the door carefully. Slowly, I turned the deadbolt clockwise until I heard the click.

Once I was sure the door had locked, I made my way towards the spare rooms. However, as I was making my way past the lounge, I heard some shuffling that came from where the couches were.

My senses hightened as I was put on full alert to assess whether this shuffling was either from a pack member, or from an intruder.

In spite of my defensiveness, I didn't have to wonder for too long.

"Selena?" A voice called.

Walking closer towards the individual, I soon realized that it was Amy.

"Yeah, it's me," I spoke softly.

I wasn't sure if people were sleeping yet, but I didn't want to wake anyone up. Hearing a soft click, a flash of light illuminated the room as she turned on a nearby lamp.

"What are you doing here?" I questioned.

"I was waitin' for you to get back," She smiled lightly.

Shocked, I soon realized that I had unknowingly kept her from sleeping.

"Oh, you didn't have to do that. I'm sorry I kept you awake."

"It's no problem. Just my motherly instinct."

Suddenly, she began patting the couch, signaling for me to take a seat. As I made my way over to the couch, she began to speak again.

"What's been botherin' you, Selena?"

"Nothing." I answered almost immediately.

Tilting her head to the side, she continued, "I know there's been somethin' on your mind. Besides, seein' as how fast you ran off to see a certain someone in the hospital..." she smiled as she raised her eyebrows.

"Ok! Ok!" I chuckled lightly, "So you obviously know then."

As my smile slowly dissipated, I began to express what has been bothering me.

"Well, Josh can be really nice sometimes. But what confuses me is how he can go from being this nice guy, to being closed off and secluded. I often feel like he is purposefully avoiding me."

For a moment, silence filled the room. Just as I wondered if she would ever reply, Amy spoke softly.

"Josh reminds me a lot of my husband, Jordan. Jordan didn't come from the best circumstances. And because of that, he had to deal, not only with the pressure of trying to find a pack to accept him, but with the judgment of others weighing upon his shoulders."

I was slightly confused, not understanding what she was referring to. How does Josh compare to Alpha Jordan?
