Chapter 9: Death Spiral Smackdown

Gemma's POV

I walked downstairs wearing my outfit (at the top) and gave Chase a small peck on the lips. He pouted and I laughed quietly. Leo was talking to me, Chase and Bree about the Death Spiral Smackdown. Bree, Chase and I were seated around the kitchen counter, whereas Leo was standing opposite us looking for some cereal.

"After school today is the big Death Spiral Smackdown. Me and Adam are gonna unleash the fury!" Leo said and we looked at him strangely. "You guys gonna come watch?" He asked us.

"We'd love to, but we're gonna go to the mall and check out the escalator. I finally mastered the art of stepping off without tripping." Chase said, a bit excited and I gave him a weird look.

"Ooh, um, were we supposed to do that today? Shoot, I-I can't make it. I have a really big test to study for." Bree said to Chase, clearly lying.

"What?" Chase asked in disbelief and sighed. "Okay, fine. I just hope those old ladies are there again to clap for me."

"It's okay. I'll be there." I whispered in his ear and he smiled at me.

Leo picked up a container with food pellets in them. I only recognize them because as I said before, I had tasted one of them and remembered what they looked like. "Never had this cereal before." Leo said and just as he was about to eat one, Bree stopped him.

"No, Leo! Those are power pellets." Bree warned.

"I don't care what they're called, as long as they make my milk chocolatey." Leo said, grinning.

"No. They're bite-sized pieces of adrenaline that activate our bionics." Chase informed.

"Yeah, but, we don't eat them anymore because we learned how to activate them ourselves." Bree explained to Leo and he nodded in understanding.

Chase laughed before saying, "They taste like dog treats without the livery aftertaste." This caused us to look at Chase weirdly and in disgust. He grinned and said, "I'm guessing."

"Well, I guess I'll just have these." Leo said, picking up another box of cereal.

Chase quickly snatched them away from Leo and said, "Careful, Leo! Those are Powdered Sugar Cookie Donut-Os. Studies have shown they slow down your brain activity."

As if to prove Chase's point right, Adam walked in gasping when he saw the box of cereal in Chase's hand. "Yummy! Powdered Sugar Cookie Donut-Os!" And with that, he grabbed the cereal from Chase's hand and started munching on them.

Chase, Bree and I rolled our eyes and went to get our bags from school. I waited for them to come out and saw Leo and Adam walking towards us too. Leo, for some reason, looked extremely happy about something. I ignored it and we walked to school.

After a few classes

Chase, Leo and I were walking down the hallways when we saw Bree talking to Caitlin and two other girls. The school bell rang and when Chase noticed Bree, he asked, "What is Bree still doing here? She said she had to study for a test."

"Yeah, she's not studying for a test." Leo and I said together.

Chase rolled his eyes and pulled his hair back, telling us he was using his bionic hearing. I used mine and heard what she was saying.

"So, Bree, I was thinking we could go to the park and fish spare change out of the fountain. Last week, I made a buck seventy-three!" Caitlin said to Bree.

"Whatever we do, I have to avoid my brother. I totally ditched him to hang out with you guys." Bree replied. Ouch, that was harsh.

Chase turned to Leo and I with a shocked look on his face and said, "She lied to me!"
