Gemma's POV
I went downstairs and saw Tasha who had a jug filled with juice and a plate filled with snacks. "Hey, Tasha. Can I help with that?" I asked, pointing to the jug.
"Sure, honey. Here." She replied, giving me the jug. "It's just a few snacks for Donald and the kids." I nodded and we went down to the lab.
"Not now, Leo. We're doing some routine bionic chip maintenance. Besides, this is fun, right, guys?" I heard Big D say as we walked in.
"Good times." Adam replied sarcastically and Chase also replied the same saying,
"A blast."
"Okay, are we done here? I wanna go be normal for a while!" Bree complained, taking off her weird neck brace and throwing it. But, unfortunately, it sparked, making Tasha drop the snacks and me to drop the jug. We jumped back in fright and I sighed in frustration.
"Can't we go just five minutes without something sparking, exploding, or oozing around here?" Tasha asked. She turned to Big D and said, "Ever since summer vacation started, it has been like one long science experiment."
"I'm sorry, honey. I... you know... maybe... maybe Leo's right. Maybe we need to take a break and go to the beach." Big D said, putting his hand on Tasha's shoulder.
"Ahh!" Adam yelled excitedly.
"Yeah!" Bree cheered.
"We'll take a whole weekend, as a normal family, you know? No gadgets, no phones. We'll do it totally tech-free." Big D said to Tasha, making her smile.
"Oh, that is exactly what I need. You would really do that for me?" Tasha asked, looking at Big D.
"Of course. You are way more important to me than the amazing innovations born of my genius." Big D gloated and she walked back upstairs. Bree, Leo and I cleaned up the mess on the floor, using some paper towels. I got up and walked to Chase, kissing him and smiled.
"Hey, angel." He greeted and pecked my lips.
"Hi, bunny." I said back and we kissed a little longer. We pulled apart and he winked at me and I blushed.
Leo stood up from the ground and said to Big D, "Wow, Big D, it's really nice of you to blow off work for my mom."
"Well, you know, Leo, now and then, everybody needs a little piece and--" Big D started, but was cut off by a klaxon blaring. "QUIET!" He yelled over the alarm.
"It's the early warning satellite system." Chase said.
"It's detecting a giant solar flare. When that thing hits the atmosphere, it'll cause massive power failures and a total blackout of satellite communications." Big D explained, showing us an image of the solar flare on the cyber desk.
"Okay, I should tell my mom we're not going to the beach, then." Leo said, about to run upstairs.
"No, no, no, no. Don't tell your mom a thing about this." Big D said, stopping Leo.
"Oh, right. Let's just ignore the biggest solar flare in history to keep the little lady happy." Chase sarcastically said.
"Don't worry about the solar flare. I'll handle it. Just pack your stuff in the R.V. and get ready to get your beach on!" Big D said and we stopped walking to look at him. What the heck did he just say?! "I know nobody says that. I know that." He quickly corrected.
We laughed and were about to go get ready, when Adam stopped us, handing us safety goggles. "Adam, safety goggles aren't going to protect our eyes from the solar flare." Chase said.
