The next day

"Well we have to have somebody come to our home and make sure it's going to be a safe environment for a child." Bucky was laid back on the sofa reading the adoption company's website. "We have to make an appointment for them to come out and if everything goes well they'll call us when there's a mother who's giving up her baby."
"Alright, go ahead and make the appointment and we'll wait to hear back from them." Steve came out of the kitchen where he was drying the pots and pans that had piled up in the sink.
Bucky looked up at him and smirked, "You look cute in your apron and rubber gloves.", he looked Steve up and down taking in the light blue apron that said 'Kiss The Cook' and his yellow rubber gloves with a flower pattern. Steve had claimed they were the only ones left.
Daisy ran out from the backroom and dove onto the sofa, knocking the laptop to the ground and crushing Bucky. Steve laughed and walked back to the kitchen hearing Bucky telling the dog to 'Fuck off you big heifer.' followed by a loud bark and even louder 'No, stop licking me! I am the Winter Soldier! These hands have killed people, world leaders! Fear me!'. Steve loved watching Daisy and Bucky play with each other.
Daisy had really attached herself to Bucky after Steve had brought her home, she'd sleep next to his side of the bed and if he had a bad dream she'd wake him up by licking his chin and gently biting his arm. Steve had learned the hard way not to mess with Daisy when Bucky was like that, she was fiercely protective of him.
That night Bucky had another nightmare and before Steve could react Daisy had woken Bucky up and calmed him down then jumped onto the bed between them, when Steve had tried to make sure Bucky was okay Daisy had nipped at him and growled. He woke up the next day to Bucky's arms wrapped around Daisy sleeping peacefully. She was awake but didn't move.
"Thank you, Daisy." When Steve reached out to pet her she bared her teeth at him. Steve knew she would never actually bite so he pet her anyway and rubbed behind her ears. When Bucky had finally woken up two hours later he came out of the bedroom with his hair a mess, sweatpants slung low, and Daisy right at his side. She didn't let him out of her sight for a whole day after he had a nightmare.
"Why didn't you wake me up, I was panning on making breakfast." Bucky sat down next to Steve on the sofa with a hot cup of coffee in his hands, Daisy laid down on top of his feet.
"Well after you had that nightmare last night a certain baby elephant wouldn't let me touch you. Before I could even react she had woken you up, calmed you down, and gotten in between us on the bed so I couldn't even see you." Steve said looking up at Bucky after giving Daisy a fake glare which she only wagged her tail at.
"Don't call her a baby elephant, Steve. She's clearly a dog." Bucky smirked at Steve who remembered he had said almost the exact same thing a few months ago. Bucky looked back to Daisy and bent over to pet her head, she reached into the touch and licked at his metal arm.

Two weeks later

"We got an interview." Bucky whispered in shock at the email he was reading. "Steve! Steve! We got an interview!"
"What? Really? When are they coming?" Steve ran into the kitchen with a towel wrapped around his waist and his hair in a shampoo mohawk.
"Well it says 'We are pleased to inform that Mr. Barnes and Mr. Rogers have been accepted for an in-home interview. A social worker will be at your door on May 18th by 3:00 pm Wednesday afternoon.' and then it goes on to say all of the requirements that they're going to be looking for, like one of us needs to make at least $26,695 for a chance of getting a child." Bucky's voice was quivering and his eyes were brimming with tears. "We could be getting a baby. Steve, we could have a baby by next year."
