"What are we gonna do about Daisy?" Bucky paced back in forth in the kitchen. "We could do the surgery but the vet said that the tumor will just grow back."
"I don't know, Buck. She's only a few years old, the surgery won't hurt her but should we do it?" Steve was sitting at the kitchen table with his head in his hands. "I'm gonna go pick up Daisy. Why don't you start looking up pre-schools for Lily."
"I don't think it'd be a good idea for her to go to public school. I think we should home school her until we know for sure that she's going to be safe. We still don't know what Rumlow is going to do." Bucky stopped pacing and walked up behind Steve, bending down and wrapping his arms around him. "There are some really good websites for Lily to use. I just don't want anything to happen to her.
"Alright, we can talk more about it when I get back." Steve stood up and turned around in Bucky's arms and hugged him back. "I'll be back soon. I love you, Bucky."
"I love you too, Steve." Bucky looked at Steve and kissed him. "Be safe."
"You too." Steve let go and walked to the door, grabbing the keys and left.
Bucky went and sat on the sofa, he grabbed his newest book and opened it to the first page. He made it two chapters in before Lily walked into the living room. "Hey baby, did you sleep good?"
Lily's hair was messed up in the back from her nap and her clothes were wrinkled. She climbed up next to Bucky and shook her head no. Bucky wrapped his arm around her and set his book down.
"Why's that. Do you miss Daisy?" Bucky pulled her onto his lap.
"Yeah, I want her to come home." Lily laid her head against Bucky's chest
"She'll be home soon, daddy went to go get her from the vets office."
"When will he be back?" Lily looked up at Bucky and rubber her hand on his stubble.
"Any minute, baby." Bucky rubbed his hand across her hair trying to smooth it out. "Why don't we brush your hair while we wait."
Lily smiled and jumped off Bucky's lap to go get her brush from the bathroom. She ran back into the living room holding her little pink brush in her tiny hand. She jumped back up on the sofa and sat in front of Bucky and handed him the brush.
"Be careful, daddy." Lily said before she settled down.
"Of course, princess." Bucky started brushing the bottom half of her hair, her thick brown curls making it hard.
"I'm not a princess, I'm a warrior!" Lily shouted and waved her hands in the air.
"Of course you are." Bucky laughed and worked his way up Lily's head. He was just finishing when Steve walked through the door with Daisy.
"Daisy!" Lily jumped off the sofa and ran to the dog, throwing her arms around Daisy.
"You gotta be careful with her for a few weeks, okay Lily?" Steve bent down next to Lily.
"Why? Is she hurt?" Lily, still holding Daisy, looked up at Steve.
"Yeah, she's a little hurt." Steve looked over to Bucky who was still sitting on the sofa. Bucky stood up and walked over to them.
"Now that your hair is brushed, do you want to brush Daisy's?" Bucky knelt down next to Lily with Daisy's brush in his hand. "You just have to be careful around her tummy."
"Yeah." Lily took the brush from Bucky and started brushing Daisy's chest. Steve and Bucky looked at each other and had a silent conversation. The look on Steve's face told Bucky that Daisy wasn't going to be okay. Bucky jerked his head toward the kitchen, stood up, and walked away with Steve following him.
