Three months later

**************************

Bucky and Steve had begun to prepare for the baby, they even moved to a house just outside the city in Scarsdale. They found a good sized three bedroom and three bath house only a mile from a small park. They'd kept contact with Emily who was coming out next week to stay with them until the baby came. They hadn't decided on a name yet but they'd been tossing around Lily, Charlotte, and Lucy.

"I really like the name Lucy." Bucky said while he was laying on top of Steve in bed the Monday before Emily arrived. "I still want to wait until she's born though, she might be a better Lily or Charlotte than Lucy." Bucky was almost asleep as he rambled on to Steve, they had been unpacking and getting the spare rooms ready for two weeks. They only had about three weeks until the baby was born and they were rushing to get her room ready, they had painted it a pastel purple on three of the walls, the wall with a small window the looked out into the back yard was a light grey.

"I got a call from Emily earlier, she's going to be coming sooner than we thought. She went in for a check up to make sure she was okay to drive up and they moved her due date up two weeks. She's going to be in labor by next Friday at the latest, we're going up tomorrow to pick her up." Steve couldn't help the smile that spread across his face as he told Bucky.

"Are you serious, she's going to have the baby in less than two weeks?" Bucky looked at Steve with wide eyes.

"Yep, we're going to have our baby in only two weeks. Emily is coming down tomorrow and staying in our spare room." Steve rolled Bucky off his chest onto the mattress and curled around him. He took and deep breathed and inhaled Bucky's scent. He always smelled of peppermint mocha creamer from the coffee he constantly drank.

"I can't believe it, when are we driving up to get her?" Bucky pushed back into Steve a little bit more, feeling the vibration of his chest as he spoke.

"Tomorrow morning. We're leaving at 9:30 so we can get there by 12:00 and then make it home at a good time." Steve said, tightening his grip around Bucky's middle and kissing his shoulder.

"Come on Steve, we're going to run into traffic if we don't leave now!" Bucky yelled running around getting stuff for the guest room and on suite bathroom.

As Bucky ran past Steve with a nervous look, Steve grabbed the sleeve of Bucky's shirt and stopped him. "Hey, it's going to be fine, stop freaking out. We're going to make it there with plenty of time. Now come on, let's get in the car, we've got a long trip.

The two and a half hour ride was made of Bucky squirming in his seat, singing to the songs that played on the radio, and leaning his head out of the window like a dog. One time as Bucky was doing that Steve had warned him the he was going to swallow a bug and as Bucky was telling Steve to 'fuck off', he managed swallowed a bug. They had to pull over to the shoulder of the road because Steve was laughing so hard.

Bucky was pretty annoyed until he looked over to glare at Steve and saw him with his eye squeezed closed, tears streaming down his cheeks, and a wide grin on his face while he laughed. Bucky had never felt so in love with him before, it scared him to think of what he would do to keep Steve safe. It scared him when he thought about if something happened to Steve and if he wasn't able to save him in time. Then it hit him, like a slap to the face, this was the person he wanted to marry, this was the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, the person he wanted to raise a family with. If Bucky had had a ring he would have proposed to Steve right there. Bucky didn't care if he died today, as long as he was with Steve.

"I love you, Steve." Was all Bucky could say.

Steve stopped laughing and looked at Bucky, smiling he said, "I love you too, Bucky."

*******************************

"Are you sure this is the right place?" Bucky asked nervously as he stood in front of the apartment door. He looked up and down the hall, shifting his weight from foot to foot nervously.

"Yes, Bucky, I'm completely sure." Steve said looking up from the paper with Emily's apartment number on it. "Apartment 667."

The door opened and very pregnant Emily stood in the door way. "Hi guys. Come on in, make yourselves at home. Sorry for the mess, I've been packing for days and one of my friends is moving with me after the baby is born so a lot of her stuff is here too." Emily slowly sat down on the love seat across from the sofa. "So how was your trip up, and thanks so much for doing this for me."

"It was pretty good, Bucky swallowed a bug when he was sticking his head out of the window." Steve looked over at Bucky who was glaring at the wall with his arms crossed.

"It's not that funny." Bucky grumbled.

"Aw come on Bucky, I was just teasing." Steve scooted closer and Bucky scooted to the end of the sofa. "Bucky, don't be like that." Steve poked him in the side, Bucky was extremely ticklish and Steve used it against him all the time. "Bucky," poke, "Bucky," poke. Bucky was fighting the laugh building in his throat. Steve poked him one more time and Bucky was reduced to a giggling mess.

"You two are so perfect together." Emily looked at the pair with a smile on her face.

"Yeah well, it's whatever." Bucky said with a tiny grin on his face as Steve was staring at him adoringly. "So how have you been, Emily. We haven't seen you in two months." Bucky turned his attention to her, leaning forward so his elbows rested on his knees.

"I've been great, the baby has been kicking a lot lately. The father contacted me a few weeks ago saying he wanted to help me raise her and was saying something about doing anything he could to help us. When I told him I as giving the baby up for adoption and had picked a wonderful couple who would be perfect for raising her he got really pissed off, called me a bitch and said he was going to sue me. So naturally I called the county office and asked them about it and they said he couldn't and if he threatened me, the baby, or you guys that I should call them and report him." Emily was leaned back, relaxed as she told them all of this.

"Wow, and this only happened a few weeks ago?" Steve asked sitting up in his seat and leaning forward a little.

"Yeah, he hasn't called me since but I did find a note on my door last week. It said 'I will do anything I have to do to prevent from you giving up my daughter. She could've had potential and I will do everything in my power to get her back.', then he signed his name at the bottom. When I found it I called the police and they said they would have twenty four hour security in my building until you guys came to pick me up." Emily said as she shifted her position, trying to get more comfortable.

"Will you tell us the name of the father?" Bucky asked looking concerned.

"Yeah, his name is Brock Rumlow." Emily laid her head back and closed her eyes. "I'm sorry where are my manners, do you guys want anything to drink, something to eat?" She said sitting, preparing to stand.

"No we're good thanks, but if we want to beat the bad traffic we should go ahead and start taking your stuff down to the car." Steve said standing up, bumping Bucky in the shoulder hoping he got the hint.

"Right, yeah, traffic is going to get pretty bad soon. If you show us where your bags are we'll take them down to the car." Bucky said standing up and walking to Emily's side, helping her off the love seat.

"Sure, they're in my room, come on I'll show you." Emily walked into her bed room where the bags were zipped up on her bed waiting. Bucky and Steve each grabbed a bag, surprised at the weight of it. They didn't understand how clothes could weigh this much.

They made their way to the elevator after Emily made sure she had everything and locked the door behind her. Bucky hefted the suit cases into the back of the car as Steve helped Emily into the back seat.

"Everybody ready?" Steve asked as he started the car and pulled away from the apartment complex.

Nobody noticed the man across the street talking into the collar of his shirt, they didn't notice him walk away toward a black SUV. They didn't notice Brock Rumlow standing on the other side of the rode watching them drive away.
