I called Foster and told him that we needed to talk. He insisted that we talk at the Bab's event and that if I wasn't coming that he would invite me. I said that I was coming to the event and he happily said that he would see me there. I couldn't stop thinking about what Levi said. Who was Foster's father and why was this the first time that I was hearing of this.
I wished that my dad was coming but he insisted that this day he had to go fishing with Johnathan. I knew it was because he couldn't stand Babs. Sometimes I thought that my father had a bigger problem with her than my mother did. My mother's feud with her was more food wise. There wasn't room for both of them on top of the food chain.
"I love you bud, have a nice time," He kissed me on the cheek. "Tell Babs, I said Hi," He joked. I rolled my eyes and laughed.
"I sure will," I was so jealous of him at the moment.
"Alright have a nice time,"
We entered the country club and I immediately felt out of place, not only because there was an older audience, but instead of being sort of casual they were dressed with pearls and such. I decided it didn't matter to me, maybe if I was trying to compete with Babs, Jeanine, and Kathrine her friend that had a touch of the gossip gene. My mom started at the food table setting down her award winning pies and smiled looking back at the presentation.
"You look great," I expected Foster, but it was Levi instead.
"Thanks," I replied.
"I mean you certainly can't compete with Barbra and Katherine but it's cute that you try," He gave my shoulder a nudge. I see Foster who waved to me and I waved back. Levi turned and that gave Foster a change of looks.
"You look good," Foster said kissing my forehead and grabbing my waist. "Where would your date be my friend?" Foster said sincerely to Levi.
"My date would be running late, and don't call me your friend," Levi pushed.
"Okay I think I should get some drinks," I offered leaving the two of them to potentially duke it out, out of my presence.
I handed each of them a drink, including Alexis the drink that was supposed to be mine but I seemed rude not to offer. She took it with a smile and complimented me on my dress and my necklace. My mother joined the teenage circle and I wasn't bothered by her presence trying to chat it up with Alexis, Foster and Levi. When she arrived in our sights Foster gave her a kiss on the hand, and the only thing I could think of was how smooth he was.
Foster and I escaped the group and walked to the community indoors pool that was empty. Foster went straight into kissing me. The warmth of the pool started to make me warm. We kissed and it lingered, he lifted me and I wrapped my legs around him. Then I remembered that I was here to talk first.
"Foster I need to ask you something," I panted.
"Anything," He said in between kissing me.
"Why did you and Levi get into a fight?" I asked.
"Why?" He let go of my legs and I pulled them away.
"Because I want to know,"
"We got into a fight because my friends were talking about girls that they would date and someone said you and I guess Levi didn't like that so I defended my friends and he defended you," He kissed me again.
"What about your father?" He dropped his hands from my neck and put them on the walls by my head.
"Who told you about my father?"
"Well Levi mentioned him, and I never even heard of him,"
"My father has nothing to do with me, he was a drunk and had a temper used to beat up my mom. When he was younger he was accused of feeling up this girl and got charged with it," He confirmed. "He doesn't have to do anything with me, he left when I was 12 haven't seen him since,"
"I'm sorry," was all I could manage.
"Let's get out of here," He offered.
I looked in my compact mirror and fixed my lipstick and my eyeliner. Apparently that room was a lot more humid than I thought. My mom motioned for me to come over to her. I didn't want to because of her company.
"Ryder Daniels!" Babs commented.
"Babs!" She greeted me with a hug and an awkward kiss on the cheek that included old people saliva and pink lipstick that wasn't even close to her shade. I fought the erg to wipe my cheek.
"You have grown tall, taller than your mother of course you must get it from that father of yours," She smiled up to me.
"I get it from somewhere that's for sure," I smiled.
"Did you try my mother's pie? It was delightful, I already heard so many people complimenting her on it," I smiled and patted her on the shoulder and walked away so she could let that sink in a little bit. My mother's pie was better than her canned pineapple dip. I wiped off the saliva off my cheek as I walked away.
"Thanks," My mom whispered linking arms with me.
"I am getting a ride from Foster if that's okay with you," I said.
"Of course, that boy is such a gentleman; he sure does know how to swoon a lady,"
"I know right?"
We were on our way to brooks pond again, or that's where I assumed we were going because we past my rode and the drive-in. I couldn't think of another place that he would bring me too. Sure enough we pulled into brooks pond, we parked in the parking lot and he went to the trunk and pulled out a blanket and a basket.
He motioned for me to follow him. I got out and followed him to the beach side that was covered in sand. He laid out the blanket and sat the basket on the edge of sand and the blanket. I sat the best I could with my dress and kicked off my shoes. The air was thick and opaque over the water, the mood of the sky was perfect. Foster pulled two white glass plates out and set three small Tupperware containers on the side and opened them to reveal melted chocolate, strawberries and cheese.
"Shit! The chocolate melted," He exclaimed.
"Relax," I offered, grabbing a strawberry and dipping it in the chocolate and taking a bite.
"That's actually a good idea" He scooped some chocolate with his finger and motioned to fling it at me.
"Don't you dare!" I warned standing up.
"Okay," I went to put it down and he threw it at me landing on the edge of my face and hair.
I grabbed a handful and threw some at him landing in no particular direction. It covered his white button up. We took turns throwing chocolate at each other and I didn't have any more left to throw so I ran up to him and wiped it all over his face. He picked me up and twirled me around and planted a chocolate kiss on my lips.
"I love you," He breathed. Oh no what do I say? I didn't know what to say to him, did I love him? Of course I felt heavily about him in a way I couldn't exactly describe. I didn't know if it was really like, or love. He waited for an answer.
"I love you too," I kissed him back; we ended up at the blanket kissing and holding each other close.
I almost felt relieved.
