Foster and I took our relationship a little more seriously now. He went out to dinner more often than not and my contact with Levi since the country club had been limited and it killed me. I wondered how he felt about it. Foster had come over for dinner once since then and Levi came over for dinner when I wasn't there.
Today was Sunday, during the day of the past week we cleaned up the drive-in more, the concession building was almost done, the screen was done, the projector shipped, the only thing that wasn't even thought of was the name of the drive-in. we all put in ideas and nobody liked the next persons. I was headed to the drive-in; Reese was at the kitchen table looking through a book with his Flute. He was actually pretty good.
"Hey Ryder, are you going to see Levi today?" Reese asked me as I was about to walk out. I walked back to the kitchen.
"Why?" I asked in curiosity.
"He mentioned that you two haven't seen or talked to each other in the past week and half," He replied still looking at his sheet music book.
Usually this would be weird because we talked every day, and seen each other almost every day. "Oh, well we just been busy with the building at the drive-in and me and Foster have been seeing each other a lot lately." I told Reese."I think you should talk to him today, like not just building and stuff, I think he seemed a little upset about your disinterest in the friendship all the sudden,"
"Reese we are still best friends, and I think I need to take your English class you use better English than me,"
"I am smarter than you," He joked.
"Shut up," I chuckled.
I decided to text Levi and confirm our already confirmed Drive-in session. He answered rather quickly and confirmed the time. I drove to the drive-in and to my surprise I was quite early and Levi was already there. Instead of his small ford car he had Jonathan's old mint condition 65 Ford truck. I smiled the truck suited him a lot better than that car that he bought for his first car.
"That's a good look on you," I knocked on his truck window and he was surprised to see me standing there. He smiled and pointed to the passenger seat. I got in and rolled down the window from the overwhelming heat in the truck.
"Sorry I am kinda used to the heat inside here," He laughed.
"What have you been up to?" I asked.
"A couple nights ago I went to another dinner at Alexis's in hopes of redeeming myself and making her parents like me," He made a face. "I embarrassed myself her father indirectly put down my father's works ethics, and indirectly made fun of me compared to my brothers. Because they are doctors and a lawyer and I guess I won't amount to anything because I am taking a gap year before college."
"You are?"
"Yeah and Alexis got mad and said that she didn't want to date someone with no ambition," He countered.
"Are you kidding me? That's horrible, are you two okay?" I asked.
"Yeah she apologized and apologized for her family saying that they aren't used to her dating somebody without a big family name,"
"Wow," Was all I could manage.
"So what about you and Foster?" He asked looking at me.
"Well we are good; he told me he loved me for the first time,"
"And?" I could see him clench his teeth; I didn't know why I was telling him. It would be different if they liked each other but Levi hated him. We always told each other who we liked, for the exception of me.
