The day went by as quickly as it started. Now I'm just laying on my bed and scrolling through my messages to come across some unread ones from Luke. They were either good morning or good night texts.
I guess with all that's happened the past week I didn't have time to go through my texts. Luke seemed to be one of the only people who made an effort to talk to me. It like a miracle someone as good-looking qs him to talk to someone as average as me. He always seemed to be by my side and I never seemed to know why. I wonder why Opal yelled at Luke. What's wrong with his sister? The many times I've gone to his house I've never once seen a picture of a girl.
"April?" Someone knocked on my door before it swung open revealing Isaac wearing a shirt and pants with a bag swung on his shoulder.
"Yes?"
"I.. I'm leaving" he smiled sadly.
"Oh" I said. I felt a lump forming in my throat. He was leaving and I won't be able to see him until Christmas.
"Bye" he said as he dropped his bag and opened his arms wide enough, welcoming me to a hug.
"Bye" I said slowly as I got up and accepted his hug. I'm not going to cry. I can't. Crying is just another form of weakness.
"April" he looked into my eyes with his. They were filled with so much emotion. His brown eyes were flooded with worry, "I know your birthday's coming up so I want you to be strong okay?". My birthday? Oh... yeah... the day I've regretted since last year. My whole life took a huge turn on that regretful day.
"I... I promise" my voice was barely above a whisper.
"If you have any problems or anything" he began, "tell that Luke guy. I'd trust him anytime. He's a good person April, and if he wants you to be his girlfriend I'll allow it"
"Isaac" I laughed as I punched his shoulder lightly.
"I love you squirt." He smiled as he ruffled my hair, messing up the already messy bun on my head.
"I love you too"
-------------
It's been a week and a day since Isaac's departure. It's not a bad thing that he left. He only wanted to leave for everyone's sake.
"April" Luke cheered, interrupting my thoughts.
"Luke" I said calmly.
"April!" He cheered again.
"Luke" I stared into his concrete eyes, trying to intimidate him.
"April" Luke sang.
"What the hell do you want from me!" I whisper - yelled. This was getting too annoying now.
"Why are you in the library?" He tilted his head to the side. If he doesn't pipe down we'll both be kicked out of the library, or that very annoying librarian will try and 'shoosh' us again.
"I found a book I like when I came here the last time" I shrugged as I took the book which was resting on my lap.
"Your birthday's coming up!" He cheered randomly causing me to jump.
'Shhhh' went the librarian and up went my temper.
"Come with me" I say, calmly as I swung my bag around my shoulder, left my book on the table, grabbed him by the ear and left without saying a word.
"Ow!" He yelled as we exited my quiet haven.
"For my birthday" I began, "I don't want cake, I don't want gifts, I don't want parties, I don't even want "happy birthday April"s " I made air quotation marks with my fingers, "I don't want hugs and last but certainly not least I don't want friends" I managed to say all in one breath.
"Sounds like a normal day to me" he said quietly.
"What was that?" I asked when I clearly heard what he said.
"Nothing ma'am" he saluted.
"Good boy" I smiled as I pat his head. I was taller than other girls my age, but my mother says that my height is the average height. I was tall enough to pat Luke's head but he was still a few inches or so taller than me.
"Why don't you want to celebrate?" He asked as we both began walking towards our lockers because or lunch time was coming to an end.
"I just don't want to celebrate a day that makes you a year closer to your death" I shrugged. This was partially true, I didn't want to worry him with the real reason.
"You don't have to go that deep" he said suprised by my answer.
"You don't have to do anything on my birthday, i just want to be left alone okay?" I smiled.
"if that's what you want" he shrugged as we stopped in front of my locker.
"Thank you for understanding" I smiled.
"Anything for you" he muttered under his breath. I don't think I was supposed to hear that.
-----------------
After school I got home and went up to my room lazily, the events of the day had drained out all the energy from me. Yeah, yeah, I am lazy.
Tomorrow, my birthday, is going to be the exact day he left me. Even if I say all I want to be is alone, what I really want is someone to hold me tight and say everything is going to be alright...
My phone's intense buzzing snapped me out of my thought. I answered the phone to be greeted my none other than Luke the idiot.
"If you think I'm going to leave you alone on your birthday, you're insane" the phone call ended.
