Cloud of Dust

I made my way into town and found a local garage. I parked my truck and went inside to see if they were hiring. I walked to the front desk to see that no one was there. There was a bell on the desk so I tapped it. Being impatience and being next to a bell doesn't work out. I kept hitting the bell when the blue eyed boy came out. "Can you please quit..." He stopped and looked at me. I was surprised because he didn't look like the type to work in a garage. "Hey I haven't seen you in a split second" he laughed at that. "So what can I do for you?" I bit my lip a little because I though over the situation. 'I would be working with him'. " Well actually I was wondering if y'all were hiring because I really need a job to pay for my gas money and feed for my new horse". He looked surprised at what I just said. " You wanna work here?" I nodded in response. "Alright I will be the judge of that. Come on to the back and let's see if you can fix this". I walked with him to the back to see a beat up truck that had look at least 20 years old. "Here see what's wrong with it". I popped the hood to see if anything looks out of whack before I actually start to fix it. "Is it okay if I drive it around?" He kinda looked at me funny. "Why do you need to do that?" I was kinda surprised because I figured he would know why. "To see if it's making any funny noises that I should be concerned about or anything like that". He shrugged and tossed me the keys in which I caught. "Wanna ride with?" he smiled so I took that as a yes. I turned the truck over and it started right up.  He jumped in the truck and we took off down the road.

We where coming up on a red light and started to squeak as it came to a stop," Hmmm". He looked at me confused, "What is it?". "Well first off it needs a damn break job...". "Oh yeah we figure that one" he chuckled and suddenly I started hearing knocking. I was thinking of what it could be when I'm interrupted by blue eyes," Hey the light is green" "Oh okay". I pushed on the gas and found a place to turn around with blue eyes looking at me like a confused puppy. "I figured out what is wrong with it just in case you were wondering". He smiled surprisingly and it freaking lit up the whole truck. I pulled into the garage in the spot it was before and parked. I got out the truck and went to my truck for my work shirt. I came walking back to the truck that I would be working on with my work shirt on. "Hey where did you go?" after saying that he looked at me with his mouth slightly open. I took my work shirt and tied it above my stomach how I usually wear it and popped the hood of the truck. After looking for a minute or two and seen what was wrong. "Here's your problem" he looked at me confused for a second. "What is it?" I knew I was fixing t make him feel extremely stupid " The timing is off". He face palmed at shook his head, "I thought I check that...". I laughed slightly because I mean who wouldn't. "Okay you got the job, so when do you wanna start just let me know...". I had to think for a second because I honestly didn't know when I wanted to start."Hmmmmm would maybe next Wednesday work just because I just moved here and need a few days to get my stuff together". "Yeah its fine just call in and let me know" he said with a smiled that I was growing very faund of all of a sudden. I smiled back and went the change back into my other shirt to get back in my truck. Just before I got in my truck he yelled, "Hey I never actually got your name?" well that is embarrassing that I've known him for a few day and I don't even know his name and he doesn't know mine. "Its Dixie..." he seemed to be lost in thought for a second and then said my name ,"Dixie...not a very common name and it fits you". I put 20 bucks on it that I looked like I retard. "I'm Colton" "Colton...very unique here and it fits you as well". He chuckled slightly and kept smiling. 'Please never stop smiling' then I snapped out of my whole controlled mind state. "Well I will see you next week" he looked at me, "I'll be waiting..." I couldn't help but smile when he said that as I drove away. 

I got on my phone to find the school so I can go enroll myself, once I got directions I made my way there. I pulled into the parking lot and through it in park to see that there were a few teachers there 'I would hate to have to come to work on Sunday'. I walked inside to be met with a lady in her forties smiling," Hi can I help you missy?". "Yes ma'am I just moved here and I was wondering if I could enroll myself so that I can start tomorrow?". She gave me all the papers that I needed and I sat in the office chair and filled it all out. I was almost fixing when I thought of something. "Ma'am is there a student parking lot here?" she looked up and smiled," Why yes there is". I kinda felt stupid fr asking this but hey its better safe than sorry. "Would I need a parking thing for my truck?" She shook her head no then I turned in my stuff. after about ten to fifteen minutes she gave me my schedule. "Here you go and you will start first thing tomorrow yes?" I nodded my head and said yes ma'am like always. I waved bye as I walked out the door to my truck. I was kinda missing Texas but I was glad we moved because it a new beginning and a clean slat. I plugged in my phone to the auxiliary cored and played "Cloud of Dust" by Tracy Lawrence and blared my speakers all the way home thinking about Colton. He has an amazing smile honestly.

On the way home I seen a feed store then I remember that I needed feed for Spirit. I walked in and seen a young girl at the counter who looked about 10 sitting with a man in his thirties. The man didn't see me till I was half way to the desk when he said, "Good afternoon to ya little lady what can I get you today?" he seemed like a really nice guy "Yes'r I'm looking for horse feed?". He smiled and told his daughter to go show me where it was. She guided me to the back and showed me the bag, "Why thank you sweetheart". She kinda looked at me stare and asked," You not from here huh?" I smiled because I had only realized then just how bad my Texan accent was showing really bad. "No, I ain't from 'round here at all in fact I got here last night". I picked up the bag and followed the girl back to the front when she asked another question, "So where are you from?". "Texas" the man seemed surprised, "Wow that must've been a long drive huh?". "Yes it was" I paid the money and went and got back in my truck.

Not too long after I pulled into the driveway and got the feed out of the bed of my truck. I could hear spirit making noise. I hurried out there to calm him down with the feed sack on my back. I put the feed in a barrel and gave him some food. I remember that one time in Texas a friend of mine gave her horses apples, so I ran inside and grabbed an apple when I get stopped by my mom. "Hey, sweetheart did you find any jobs today?". "Yes'm I got one at a local garage and I start sometime later this week?". She seemed kinda concerned with me starting work early. "Are ya sure you wanna start workin' just as we move here kiddo?". I nodded my head then told her I was going back out to the barn to spend time with Spirit. I head back out to the barn and give him his apple, and sit there and talk to him.  Before I know it it's already 8:30 I give spirit kisses and I head back to the house. I walk in and tell everyone goodnight and they look at me like I grew another head right before there eyes. "Why are you going to bed so early its only 8:30?" then I realized I forgot to tell them that I enrolled myself into school and that I start tomorrow. "I start school tomorrow I went ahead after finding a job and enrolled myself". They all said goodnight as I went upstairs to take a quick shower and get my things ready for tomorrow. I was also thinking about Colton and his smile then it hit me 'What if we have a class together'. I just hope that tomorrow is good and that people don't start shit just as I get here.
