Evan's P.O.V.
In the hours leading up to when the team had to leave for the meet, I felt awful.

When it was lunch time, I went to the library and pretended to be reading when I was actually sleeping. The lunch dismissal bell rang and I jumped up off my seat to get to my next class. I sat right back down again because my head throbbed painfully.

As I slowly stood up to go to my locker, I rubbed my temples. My throat was very sore, so I gulped down some water on my way to class. I glanced at the clock. I would spend fifteen minutes in my next class, and then the team would leave for the meet.

It was only art class, and we were working on our ceramic projects. I laid my head down on my arms as more people filed into the class.

Rob slapped me on the back. "Ready room race?" He sat down in the desk across from me. I sat up and shrugged. He laughed. "Looking forward to seeing Robin again, aren't you?" He punched me playfully on the arm as Ms. Thomas called the room to order.

Fifteen minutes later, an announcement went on that all members of the cross country team and to leave to go to a meet. I got up and walked out, Rob following me. I grabbed my backpack and running bag from my locker and went to the gym entrance at the back of the school. The bus to take us was waiting, and I got on, sitting in the farthest seat back. Everyone got on, and Robin hurried on just as we were about to leave. All the seats were full except mine. She saw me and hurried down the aisle and sat next to me.

I could tell this had been planned, because Rob smiled at me. I rolled my eyes back.

Robin got out her leather book that she was always reading from, so I leaned in the corner made by the seat and window. I put my earbuds in and turned on my phone.

I went into my music and picked the Narnia radio. Magical music was soon swirling in my head, and before I knew it, we had arrived.

Since it was our last race, the coach spent time making sure we went through all the stretches. Soon, we had our spikes on and were lined up, ready to start.

Robin crouched next to me as the starter raised his gun. My head throbbed right before the gun went off. I ignored it, and soon we had started.

I did well, for the first half mile. Robin went past me and I started to fall behind. My stomach hurt and my head hurt; my last race was stinking.

I had to stop for a quick second because I was for real sick. I had almost reached the finish line when my knees buckled. I couldn't go on; it hurt to move. I wrapped my arms across my belly as I threw up. Someone helped me to my feet and dragged me across the finish line, where an ambulance was waiting.

Two paramedics lowered me onto a stretcher and rolled me into the ambulance. I let myself block everything from my mind; I lost consciousness.

I lay on the couch in our living room where my dad had dispatched me. I had been taken to the hospital, and had been checked over, and other than the fever, I was fine.

I groaned as my head throbbed when someone rang our doorbell. Yvonne ran from the kitchen to open it. I heard the spattered of rain as she opened the front door.

"Hi, Robin!" I watched from my couch as Robin took off a dripping coat and a man beside her shook out an umbrella. I heard my sister take them to the kitchen.

"How do you do? I'm Yvonne Day, Evan's sister. You must be Mr. Halls?" I heard my sister's voice echo throughout the house. I rubbed my temples as I swung my legs over the side of the couch to stand up.

Groggily, I made my way to my bedroom, where I crawled under my sheets, wet uniform and all. I fell asleep easily, my head and throat still hurting.
