The Little Knight

"Papa," Roland whines. "Yes my boy." Robin says with a sigh. "When is Regina coming?" He whines some more lying on the apartment floor. Marian sighs heavily "Roland," she warns "what did I tell you about asking for her. She's not you mother I am." Roland huff and closes his eyes. His misses having ice cream, laughing and playing with Henry. He misses the smiles and cuddles but most of all he misses Regina moving his moppy curls back and kissing forehead. "Roland?" Marian questions. "Hm," She is silent. "No more Regina," Roland sits up and shakes his head. "No momma" Marian stands up and walk over to him "I don't want you to say her name anymore Roland Locksley and I mean it. She is far away from us so stop thinking about her."

Roland stands up and protests "Why momma? Why can't I see her?" Marian is getting angrier by the minute shouts "because I said so. I am your mother not that monster! Go to your room Roland now!" Roland huff and stomps to the only room in Neal's apartment. Roland has no idea why they left or why Regina isn't here. All he knows is that he misses her and Henry. He looks at his Papa now and sees he doesn't really smile or laugh. He doesn't know why all he knows is all a four year can comprehend; Papa smiled all the time with Regina and that alone is enough to make Roland go see her.

The door opens and Papa walks in and lies on the bed. "Papa, why did we have to leave Regina?" Robin sighs and smiles sadly "we had to save momma. She was sick and could only get better here." Robin digs in his pocket and takes out a picture that Roland drew a while back; back in Storybrooke... It's a picture of Regina, Himself, Roland and Henry smiling holding hands. On the back the family signed it and Regina wrote 'Our Family.' Roland sits up and looks at the picture when an idea hits him. He remembers Henry telling him about mail mans and how the give us presents from far away so he's going to mail himself to Regina.

Later that night once everyone is asleep Roland gets up and grabs a box. He writes Storybrooke the best he can since Regina was still working on letters with his and he crawls himself in the box and drifts off to sleep think about all the fun he will have once he's mailed back to her.

Morning comes and Roland hears his name being called thinking its Regina and that he arrived at her house Roland quickly stands up from his box. "Oh thank heavens. My boy, why were you sitting in a box?" Robin says scared. Then he sees the writing on the box and the tears coming from his son's eyes. "Roland?" Robin says softly. "Papa I was trying to get back to her. To make you smile and so I don't break my promise." Robin frowns. "Roland why on earth-" Roland cuts him off with his outburst of tears.

"I'm her majesty's brave knights and knights never leave their queen. I promised Regina I would always keep the monsters away but I can't if I'm away! She said we would never break apart because she would always need me and never let me go... I wanted to mail myself to her papa." He says a little calmer as his story comes to an end. Robin's heart clutches as he brings Roland into his arms. "How about we call her?" Robin whispers. Roland shakes his head furiously as Robin pulls out his phone and picks Regina's contact. "Hello?" Her voice is a bit hoarse over the phone. "Hi Regina," Roland squeaks. "Hello my brave little knight. How are you?" You could hear Regina's smile through the phone. "Sad" Roland says looking at the box.

"Why?" Regina questions a hint of concern and fear in her voice. "I tried to mail myself to you but it didn't work." Roland's tears start to fall. "I wanted to be there because I miss you." Regina sniffles "I miss you too my brave knight but I need you to be brave for me okay?" Roland shakes his head "Okay but who is going to fight your monsters away?" Regina sniffles some more "Roland baby I'm a big girl and need to start fighting away my own monsters" Roland shakes his head no. "No what if you get hurt?" Regina lets a sob escape her mouth "I will have my little prince there to help me get better."

"Then who is going to fight my monsters Gina?" He whispers. Her body now shaking from silent sobs she says "Roland you are my very brave knight and no monsters will even come hurt you or they will have to mess with the queen but I need you keep the monsters away from my thief." Roland curious asks why. "Because baby they want to make him sad and cry so I need you to be the brave knight and make him smile every day. Make sure you tell him how much you love him..."

Roland smiles and says "I will but majesty can you be brave for me?" Regina is full on crying in quiet her heart breaking into two. "I can Roland." he smiles and says "I don't want those monsters to get you too." Regina chuckles slightly and says "I will Roland but only if you can be brave. Can you be brave?" Roland nods and says "I can be brave. I'm going to be so brave just like you... I love you Regina" They say nothing until Regina says in a shaky voice "I love you too my brave little knight."
