A few weeks later and we had settled into a pattern, hanging out and writing music just seemed so natural, like we had known each other for years. Today I was going to go see my dad, something I did every few years ever since he went to jail. I was just getting ready to leave when Hails called to me from the kitchen.
“We have an interview that Ronnie just told me about. We have to be there at eight, the boys are coming with us, I think they’re being interviewed also.” Becs said, glancing up at me. “Where are you off to?”
“Just out. I’ll be back in a few hours.” I said, brushing off the question and making my way out the door, ignoring everyone’s confused looks. I climbed into my car, clenching the wheel. My dad had gone to jail for beating, raping, and neglecting me, and for murdering my mom. I went to his parole hearings, pleading with a judge to keep him in jail. I went through the same process as always in a detached state, until his lawyer stated that his request for parole was due to his contracting cancer and it having spread rapidly. The doctor testified that he had maybe a few months left. I was shaken out of my zoned out state and stared in shock as the judge agreed to allow him to be released on parole and into the care of the hospital. All I saw was my father smirk at me before leaving with the guards.
I drove back home, barely noticing that I had walked in the door and was now being stared at by everyone. Someone started shaking me, forcing me out of my zone. “What is wrong with you?” Becs asked, “You have an hour to get ready before we have to leave.”
I just nodded and went upstairs to mindlessly pull on different clothes. I was putting on my makeup when Zayn walked in.
“Are you okay?” he asked softly, placing a hand on my shoulder causing me to jerk back on instinct.
“Fine. Just tired. I need to get today over with.” I sighed, capping the cherry bomb red lipstick that I had used.
“We should go, I told everyone I would drive with you because we’re a few seats short in the van.” Zayn said, helping me stand in my heeled combat boots.
“Sweet, I get to take my baby out.” I said, leading him to my Audi R8. I laughed as his jaw dropped and he slipped in. I sped off towards the show, beating the others, even thought hey had left before us. I saw a few fans camped out by the back entrance and immediately, parked and skipped over to them. “DOLLIES!” I yelled, hugging the nearest one causing them all to cheer. “I have five minutes and I am determined to give you all a hug!” I laughed, taking pictures, signing, and jumping around, hugging all of them.
“OMG I love you so much. Your story about your struggle with self harm saved me so many times I just wanted to say thank you.” One of the last fans said, hugging me tightly. I teared up a little and squeezed her back just as tightly. “I’ve been clean for a week…I know it’s not long but-“
I cut her off right there, “It’s a start, and that’s what matters.” I took off one of the bracelets that I always had on my wrist, one from Never Take It Off that was my promise not to self-harm any more and wrapped it around hers. “And now you can just look as this and know that I’m always here for you. Do you have a twitter? I’ll follow you and you can always message me.” I was vaguely aware of the rest of the group arriving and signing autographs. I felt Zayn’s eyes boring into my back. I got the girls twitter and immediately followed her. I quickly finished up my rounds, hugging each of the fans before heading inside to get interviewed.
We were led to make up but were only given a few touch ups and our stylist just nodded at our outfits, like usual. Lewis usually just left us in whatever we picked out, only choosing for us when if came to red carpet events. The boys were dressed by their stylist and given a light make over. Us girls were going on first and then the boys would join us so we scurried onto the stage as we were introduced. I laughed as Becs plopped herself down on my lap.
