“Why didn’t you tell me you were sick.” I asked, clutching my grandmother’s hand. The doctor warned me she wasn’t doing well and I should prepare for the worst.

“You’re young and on tour. No need to worry about an old bag like me.” She wheezed. “Now leave me with this young man.” She said, reaching her hand out to Zayn. I glanced at him before nodding and leaving the two as she requested.

Rain left me with her grandmother and I sat next to her. “When are you marrying my granddaughter, young man?”

“I intended to ask her at the end of tour.” I said, stunned at her directness. “I have a ring ready and a house ready for us in London.”

“Ask her sooner. I’d very much like to be present at your wedding. Take care of her, I’m afraid she’s never really had someone to do that.” We sat in silence for a second before she broke it again, “Well what are you waiting for. Go on. Take her out to Cherry Blossom Park. It’s about twenty minutes away. Ask her there. Don’t screw this up.” She snapped, dismissing me. I jumped up and told her I was going to go to the hotel to get cleaned up and told her she should come too.

Rain said she’d stay so I told her I’d as one of the girls to send over some clothes. My mind raced as I started planning the next step in my life.

El brought me a ridiculous dress and heels to change into. I complained but grandma told me not to be silly and to get dressed to go out and have a girl’s night with my friends. I kissed her forehead and obliged. I was lost in thought until we pulled to a stop outside of Cherry Blossom Park. It was my favorite place as a child, I often ran to it because it reminded me of my mother.

I looked between my friends in confusion but they just laughed and pushed me out of the car before driving off, yelling good luck out the window. I saw a candle lined path and followed it, my heart racing.

I stopped when I saw Zayn standing in front of me. “Zayn? What’s going on?”

“Date night.” He smiled, leading me over to the picnic that was laid out. We ate slowly, not talking much, but not really needing to.

“Thanks.” I breathed, standing up and stretching. “I needed to stop over thinking everything. I knew my grandma wouldn’t live forever.”

I finally looked over at him to see him on his knee. My hands flew to my mouth as I saw the ring he held.

“Rain, I was going to wait to do this, but your grandmother seems to have other ideas. She wanted me to do this now, instead of waiting. She expects to walk you down the aisle, by the way.” Zayn chuckled nervously. “I love you. I’ve known I was going to spend the rest of my life with you this entire time and now I want to make that a reality. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?”

“Yes!” I said, tears streaming down my face. He slid the ring on my finger, I admired the delicate cherry blossom ring. I placed my hands on his face and kissed him hard, pouring my love into the kiss.
