TYLER POV:
I set my books down on a desk toward the back of the room. The bell rings. Tons of people rush in, and fight over the seats. The nerds sit by the nerds. The goths sit by the goths. The jocks sit by the jocks. I don't fit into any of those categories, so I just keep my head down as the file in. The teacher gets up from her desk.
"Welcome back students!! We have someone new joining us!!"
She signals for me to get up, and go to the front of the class.
"Say your name, hobbies, and what you want to be!"
I stare at my shoes.
"I'm Tyler, I like to listen to music, and I'm not sure what I want to be."
I heard people laughing at me under there breath.
"What a loser!!" I hear someone call.
Everyone Bursts into laughter.
I walk to my seat, with my head low.
The teacher tells us to open our books to page 20.
"Does anyone know the answer to 2x + y = 4
All the nerds hands are raised high.
"Tyler! How about you come to the board and show us how to solve for y!" I hear the teacher say.
I walk to the board, and grab a black marker. My hand starts to shake. I write the problem on the board, trying to hide my nervousness. I subtract 2x from both sides, and now the problem reads: y = 4 - 2x. I circle the answer shakily.
"Correct!" I hear the teacher yell.
I felt somewhat proud, showing everyone I was better then they thought.

After 3rd period, it was lunch time. So I waited by my locker for Josh. He walked over with 2 guys.
"Oh hey Tyler!" I heard him say.
"How is your first day so far??"
I blinked at him. Then I stared at my shoes again.
"Hey see you around Josh!" The two guys called walking away.
Josh waited until they were gone.
"Tyler what's wrong?"
"I don't like it, Josh"
"I hate school too, it's boring." He said with a shrug.
"I mean the kids were making fun of me."
Josh pulled me into a tight hug.
I sit down, and put my head between my knees.
"Who's making fun of you??" Josh asks.
"Everyone." I say sighing.
A pack of jocks walks over, and I quickly get up and walk the other way.
"Hey Josh!" the guys say.
"Hey guys." Josh says, looking around the corner to where I was hiding.
"Hey would you like to sit with us at lunch today?" one of the cheerleaders said. She played with his hair. I was getting jealous real quick.
"Actually, no. I have to talk with the math teacher about some homework."
"Aww c'mon, please" she says putting a hand on his arm.
"No thanks."
She turns and looks to find me hiding in the corner.
"You're not going to sit with that loser, are you??" She says directing towards me.
"Actually, yeah. He's pretty cool."
She turns, and walks away rolling her eyes. They all leave.
Josh bends down so he is eye-level with me.
"C'mon, let's go to the courtyard."
He takes my hand. He starts running.
I slip and fall, and hit my head on the wall.
"Tyler!!!" he says picking me up. He runs to the courtyard.
He sets me down on a bench.
"Tyler, I'm so so sorry."
"Ouch!" I say pulling my hand away from the bench arm rest. A burn on my arm forms.
Josh runs to the nearest drinking fountain, and brings back his snapback, damp from the cool water. He places his hat on my arm.
Josh helps me up, and we both walk over to a big shade tree.
"Thanks Josh."
"No problem."
I feel a hand grasp mine. I look over to see a smiling Josh.
I lean my head against his shoulder.
"Tyler?"
"Yeah Josh?"
"W-why do you do this?" He says referring to my bandaged wrist.
"It.. It helps.. Helps me release some of the stress.. And pain... And sadness..."
"But Tyler, your hurting yourself."
I sigh.
"I know, I know. I shouldn't, but I do. It's because I've never been that happy."
"Wait, if your happy that you have me, then why did you-?" I cut Josh off by saying:
"I don't deserve you."
Josh puts my face in his hands.
"Yes you do. You deserve to be happy. You're an amazing person, Tyler."
I turn, and close my eyes, trying to fight back the stinging tears. I struggle to get out of Josh's embrace. I hurriedly climb to highest branch in the tree.

'Petrified of who you are, and who you have become'

JOSH POV:
I climb after Tyler. I grab my phone, and scroll to the pictures from the day before. The first picture that shows up is of himself, smiling. I hand the phone to him.
"What is it??" he says wiping his tears.
"Swipe through the pictures."
Tyler stares at the first photo. He looks at his closed eyes, his smiling face.
"You fell asleep in my lap."
He swipes to the next image. Its a video. It's him playing the piano, and singing.
"Help me Polarize. Help me Polarize. Help me down. Those days is where I'll be hiding all my problems." Video Tyler sings.
He swipes to the last photo. It's of us both. We took a silly selfie yesterday.
The tears Tyler was holding back now flood his face.
"...Josh... I...I" he chokes out.
"You're worth it Ty."
"HEY! Get down from that tree right now!" the principle yells from the bench.
I climb down first, and help Tyler down . She hands us both detention slips.
"You will both serve your detention after school, TODAY!" she yells, continuing.
"Joshua Dun! Is that you???"
"Y-yeah it's me." I say, rubbing the back of my neck.
"I'm very surprised that you, of all people, would do such a thing!"
"And Tyler Joseph!! You are not making a good first impression! Detention on your first day!"
"I know, I'm sorry" Tyler says staring at his shoes.
The principle walks back into the school, and I grab my snapback off the ground, and put it on Tyler's head.
"Hey do you need a ride?" I ask.
"Yeah, actually" he says looking up at me. The snapback falls over his eyes. He laughs.
"C'mon lets go."
We reach my car, and drive to Tyler's house.
Before getting out of the car, he gives me a kiss goodbye.
"See you in detention in about 2 hours."
"Okay, do you need another ride?" I ask.
"Can we just walk?"
"That works too" I say with a smile.
