When the sun rose the next day, the light creeped in through the window and drenched her face with heat. She expected to hear the sound of the waves, crash against the rocks outside her ranch, but instead, she heard the uncertainty of her fate as the sound of the train echoed through her mind. She got up and took her hair out of her pony tale, letting her long red hair reach down her back. She brushed her hair and walked over to her closet where she opened it to see it full of outfits that Reyna brought from the Capitol for the famale tribute to wear. There were dresses in all sizes, and Annie took out a blue dress www.polyvore.com/blue_floral/set?... which was in her size and pulled it on. She opened her door and walked through the train hallway and she caught eye of the clock. It was 6am and she was the only person awake, so she sat in the lounge cart. The lounge cart had white sofas with blue and orange fluffy cushions, a bookshelf and a bar. Annie walked over to the bookshelf and pulled out a book about the history of North America, before Panem even existed. She read about the civil war and about previous presidents, presidents that didn't force children to fight to the death, but instead opened orphanages, schools and created a safe world for children to live in. Whatever happened?
"Morning" Finnick said, as he entered the lounge cart and stood at the window, watching the sun rise over the country side of Panem.
"Morning" Annie replies, barley taking her eyes of the book she was reading. Finnick turned and saw the name of the book she was reading. 'America: The land of opportunities'
"How ironic" Finnick sniggers "Considering people in the districts barley have any opportunities"
"You can say that again" She smiled, as she looked up at him. Finnick then sat beside her.
"Y'know Annie, I apologise if I came over as something I'm not yesterday, I was only trying to be friendly" He adds.
"You weren't very considerate, you have no idea how we are feeling" Annie comments.
"But I do, I was only 14 when I entered the games Annie, how do you think I felt?" Finnick adds.
Annie closed her book and shuffled awkwardly in her seat.
"I'm sorry" Annie eventually confessed. "I'm just terrified, I mean, I'm going to my death, how else am I supposed to feel?" Finnicks green eyes cried with sympathy for her. He remembers the first time he was reaped, he remembers the pain and fear he felt.
Annie then felt his depression and wanted to lighten the mood a bit.
"So, Odair, what's life like in the victors village? I've heard that you have running water and electricity, is that true?"
"Yea that true" Finnick smiles. "And you'll be living there soon"
Annie's heart began to beat faster, what did he mean she'll be living there soon? She was confused by his words.
"Why would you say that? I have no chance of winning, no chance at all!" She yelled,
"Don't say that, you have just as much chance as everyone else. You're from District 4 Annie, you can swim and fish, no other districts have that advantage!"
Reyna then enters the lounge cart, her hair a shade of purple this time and she was wearing a bright yellow dress with a green hem.
"Morning! Morning you two!" She chirps as she walks over to the bar to pour a glass of juice. Ross then enters the lounge cart, he was wearing a blue shirt and black trousers, obviously left in his closet also.
"Come to the window you two!" Reyna calls. Annie and Ross rush over to the window and stare out at the Capitol as the train approaches. Tall, metallic, and shiny buildings that Annie has only ever read about in Sci-Fi books are shown right before her eyes. Her mouth drops at the spectacle before her.
"Isn't it grand?" Reyna comments, as she sits down.
"Is this real?" Annie asks in disbelief,
"Oh, it's real alright" Finnick adds.
When the train finally arrives at the station, Reyna grabs Annie and Ross by the arms and makes them stand in front of the door, awaiting for it to open.
"Okay, when these doors open, you will be faced with all the Capitol citizens, so smile, take deep breaths and enjoy the fame!" Reyna says as she pushes the button. The doors slide open and Annie and Ross are blinded by the flashing lights of the cameras and defend by the sound of the cheers and screams. Annie and Ross step off the train and hear Finnick whisper to them both from behind.
"Smile as if it's your last day"
