Over the next few hours, regardless of how unresponsive Annie was, Finnick remained by her side. He tried to get her to eat and drink, but she remained a blank canvass, showing no expression or emotion. This slowly but surely broke Finnicks heart. However, when Finnick was left alone in silence, Annie could not avoid the turmoil that was in her mind. She was never alone, because the faces of those she killed were all around her, the screams of the fallen echoed in her head and she could not get the image of Ross's headless body out of her mind.
The next day, Annie, ignoring the state she was in, was forced to return back to District 4. She was carried in Finnick's arms back to the Capitol train, where it will take Annie and Finnick home. As Annie was now a victor, herself and her family were given the privilege of owning a house in the Victors village. There is only one other victor besides Finnick, and her name was Mags. Mags was an 83 year old woman who won the 7th Hunger games when she was 17. Finnick and Mags have lived in the Victors village since they won the games, and they, along with their family's, are the only people that live in the village and only two Victors from their District.
Whilst on the train back it District 4, Finnick laid Annie on the sofa opposite himself and Reyna, who came on the train to support Finnick who was struggling with his emotions about Annie. Finnick was breaking down inside, seeing Annie's motionless body torn his heart, and he only prayed that she would recover, so he could hold her again.
"She will get better in time Finnick" Reyna says, as she poured herself a drink at the bar and sat beside him. Annie's eyes continued to stare up at the celling of the train, as if she spotting something that was moving.
"What if she remains like this for years?" Finnick asks in a quiet, and panicked voice, as he tilted his head at the same angle as Annie's, staring into her empty blue eyes.
"Then you must wait" Reyna replies simply. "The Annie you love so dearly is in there somewhere, you just have to draw her out. And it may take a while, but in the end, when she does come back to us, she will know how much you truly care for her"
When the train finally arived back in District 4 a day later, there was not a huge crowd to greet them at the train station, there were no happy, cheery faces and there where no friends there to welcome them home. The only people who were there were Annie's sister and father. Finnick carried Annie off the train, after one final farewell to Reyna. Once he left the train, Rose ran up to Finnick and she stared down at her motionless sister in his arms. Tears began to stream down her face and her father stood behind them, staring at his lost daughter.
"What happened?" Rose eventually asked in distress. Finnick looks into Roses teary eyes, then back into Annie's.
"She's lost" He says in a quiet voice. "And I don't think we will ever get her back"
Finnick passed Annie over to her father, who stared down into his daughter eyes. She was so still, so quiet, and when he put his hand to her cheek, she was ice cold. Rose ran and wrapped her arms around Finnick, crying into his shoulder.
"Thank you" She cried. "For keeping my little sister alive"
Finnick didn't reply. He said nothing after that day. He was in mourning over Annie, a state he would be in until she recovered. The next day, Annie, Rose and their father left their ranch house and moved into the Victors village. Because District 4 was the third most wealthiest district, the Victors village was extremely grand and the houses were made before Panem even exited but were kept because of their historical value. Each Victor and their family lived in a large manor house, with vines up the side and had about 6 bedrooms. The inside was fully decorated with beautiful chandlers and vintage furniture. Annie's family however brought many of their home decorations to make their new house feel more homely. They were dragged from rags to riches in only a day, and the family found it hard to adjust. Mags and Finnick lived in very similar houses, only next door to each other. The entire victors village was surrounded by iron gates, and surrounded by the District 4 Forrest, so it was ever so peaceful and quiet.
When they arrived at their new home, Rose ran inside straight away to examine the beauty that this house had to offer. Annie's father had placed Annie on the bench outside the house.
Annie stared out into the Forrest that was opposite the house, the trees reminded her of the trees she climbed in the arena, the pond in front of the house reminded her of the dam she almost drowned in, and the blue berries on the bush next to her reminded her of the nightlock berries that killed two tributes during the game. Everywhere she looked, every sound she heard and every smell she smelt took her back into the arena, the arena that changed her life.
"Hi Annie" Rose said, a few hours later as she joined Annie on the bench outside the house. Rose was holding a baking tray full of cookies that she had just baked. She picked up a cookie and waved it in front under Annie's nose.
"Come on fish head, I know you can't resist a cookie" Rose giggled, as she tried to get a response out of her sister, but she still just sat there, staring into space. She was still somewhere else, still back in the arena.
"Come on Annie" Rose said as she dropped the cookie back on the tray. "You've never been able to resist one before"
"She's not there" Their father said as he joined them on the bench. "You're just talking to an empty space" He said, as he stared into the empty eyes of his daughter.
"Annie" Rose says gently as she begins to cry. "Annie, please"
"Rose..."
"No dad!" Rose cries. "She is still in there! She is!"
"Rose?" Finnick says as he walks down the path to the house. "Rose, there's no use"
"No! I haven't lost her!"
Rose's father pulls her into a hug to comfort his daughters weeping.
"She will get better Rose" Finnick comforts as he kneels beside her. "Give her time"
"Come back to us Annie" Rose whispered into her ear.
Later that night, Finnick sat beside Anne as she laid motionless in her bed. He pushed the strands of hair out from her eyes to get a better look at them. Annie's eyes were pale blue, they reflected beauty from them, but they were empty, and there seemed to be no life in them.
"I miss you Annie" Finnick says as he bends down and kissed her cheek. He then stands and walks toward the door, but he stops when he feels his hand getting pulled. He turns back round to see Annie holding onto his hand. He sits down on the bed beside her. Her eyes them become full with life and her lip begins to tremble.
"I'm here Finnick, it's alright, I'm here" Her quiet voice says.
