Annie ran faster and faster as the final two tributes caught up to her. She began to struggle, not only did the stab wound in her back become even more painful, but she struggled to catch her breath. She then reached the ends of the woods and found herself at the dam where the games started. She then decided to swim for the cornucopia where she could at least get a weapon. But when she stepped foot in the water, the ground began to shake and the currents crashed against her, pushing her back. This was the finale, and the game makers had a cruel way to end this years game.
The earthquake began to slowly crack the wall of the dam which was holding back all the water, but within seconds, the dam broke, and a huge wave of water fell upon the arena. It made impact and Annie was dragged under the by currents as the water hit land. She lost sight of the other two tributes, but she didn't care any longer, she only cared about surviving this, after all it was what Ross's wanted. Annie still clenched tightly to the knife in her hand, she wouldn't dare let it go until she was certain she was safe. All she could hear were the screams of the tributes as they were hit by the waves. She also heard other screams, screams that didn't come from the final two tributes, but screams from the bloodbath that first day, screams that won't leave her mind, she can't get them out of her head, and she knew she was slowly but surely, loosing her mind. She didn't know what was real anymore, whether the screams she heard were real or in her head.
When she finally came to the surface for air, she saw that the wave had flattened all the trees in the arena, and couldn't see the other tributes. The current kept dragging her under because it was so strong, but Annie was a stronger, and she could swim better than anyone else. She decided that she needed to get out of the water, and she then saw that the only surface she could see was the top of the cornucopia, which was just above the water. She fought against the strong currents which kept pushing her back, but she managed to drag herself to the roof of the cornucopia. She stood on the metal surface and looked over at the flooded arena. She then heard a muffled cough, and turned to see the District 2 girl climbing onto the cornucopia roof. She had a knife also, and ran towards her.
Annie ducked as as she ran towards her, and tripped her as she ran past, but as she went down, she dragged Annie down with her. She then felt an indescribable pain, and looked down to see a knife in the lower part of her chest.
"Game over" Said the District 2 girl, as she bent over, struggling to catch her breath.
"No" Annie said as she found her last ounce of strength, "The games over for you!" Annie shouted, as she pulled the knife out of her chest and pushed it into the girls neck. She fell back as it cut open her throat. Annie could see the girls blood on her hands, and could also see her own. She was in serious pain, but managed to stand.
The District 2 girl let out one final blood curdling scream as she looked into Annie's eyes. The girls brown eyes then went pale and lost its colour. She was staring into the eyes of her fifth victim, and then realised, she can never live with herself after this. The District 2 girl then went silent and the cannon on sounded.
She had won, but could not celebrate, not after seeing and experiencing what she had been through. She looked down at the girls body and saw her blood. She caused that, she caused a death, not just one, but five. She then stared out over the flooded arena once again and screamed. She screamed loud enough for all off Panem to hear. She screamed because of her pain, she screamed because of the death, but she also screamed because she knew that she had lost a friend, and could do nothing to stop it. Annie then collapsed to her knees, screaming in the pain of her chest and back wound. She them saw a hovercraft descend upon her. She was going home, but realised, she could never go home being the smiley, enthusiastic girl she went in as. Finnick was right, you do change when you leave the arena, but unfortunately for Annie, she will never be the same again.
