My day just couldn't go by fast enough. Each class seemed to last an eternity, and getting mocking and rude looks from my team mates didn't help. I just wanted to leave and text Cas. I never thought I'd be so impatient waiting to text a GUY. What's happened to me? I've always liked girls, so what I may have not dated anybody since... well, I don't even really remember it's been so long... But I've never liked a boy before! Until Cas. I've only really known him for what, a few hours? And I'm already head-over-heels. Uh oh.
When the final bell rang, I could not race to my car fast enough. As I waited for Sam, I contemplated texting Cas right then. But would that seem too eager? Ugh.
As I finally caught sight of Sam, he was walking out of the building with some dude I soon recognized as Gabriel Novak. Huh, I didn't know Sam knew Gabe... they must have a class together or something. Whatever. I watched as Sam waved goodbye to Gabriel, who gave him a winning smile, and Sam started towards our car. He had to cross the school's crosswalk to get to where I had parked, and just as he began walking my way, the most horrible thing I have ever seen happened. He was hit by a car. Neither he nor I had seen it coming, and I watched as if in slow motion as Sammy was flung and crushed. I screamed his name and rushed out of my parked car, running towards where I'd seen him land. As I got to him, I knew it was bad. Gabe was already there, kneeling beside him. He looked panicked. As I choked back tears, I checked if Sam was still breathing. He was. I let out a sigh of relief and quickly pulled out my phone and called 911, frantically telling them what had happened. As I eventually heard the sound of sirens approaching, I couldn't help but look at Sam's damaged face. At that exact moment I felt arms suddenly wrap around me. I had no idea who would be hugging me, although I defiantly needed it, and was surprised when I looked back to see Cas, looking concerned.
"That's your little brother, isn't it?" he asked.
"Yes, it is. Oh god, I can't believe this is happening." I responded, still trying not to cry.
"It'll be okay, I promise. I think the ambulance is here." he replied.
And as I looked over, I realized he was right. Thank goodness.
