Please don't copy/steal this idea. I've worked pretty hard on it and I'd appreciate it if you'd respect that.

Enjoy :)

{I changed it a bit. It use to say that the Masquerade Ball was the day before New Years Eve. But now, it's a week before New Years. So keep that in mind. Sorry about that :) }

Prologue

It all started this Tuesday afternoon, at Jefferson High School.

Me and my best friend, Abby, were just walking the halls with our bags, preparing to leave school for the day.

Minding our business like the good little girls we are, we started talking about our plans for the upcoming weekend.

"You know about the carnival Saturday, right?" Abby asked me.

I sighed. "Of course," I said blankly. "It's hard not to know about it when that's the only thing you've been talking about."

She chuckled. "Well, we're going there. I haven't been to a carnival in forever."

Me neither. And carnivals are fun. Lots of roller coasters, friends, nachos, games, and most importantly, cotton candy.

I opened my mouth to respond to Abby, but was rudely interrupted when someone slammed right into the back of me, making me drop my books.

I turned to see who the douche bag was, and wasn't that surprised to see that it was Asher James, the guy that I hate with all my heart.

He flicked his coconut colored hair out of his dark brown eyes and sent a smirk my way. He stopped walking to look at me and Abby.

Not wanting to deal with some stupid BS, I just simply picked up my books and glared at Asher.

"Excuse you?" I told him, fists clenched.

He prevented another smirk. "Me? What'd I do?"

I scoffed, rolling my eyes at his childishness. It's very inappropriate, yet highly predictable.

"What the hell do you mean? You just bumped into her, moron," Abby scolded at him.

That's why I love her.

He did a fake pout and walked closer to us. Not being one to back down from anyone, I stood my ground and just glared daggers at him.

"Did I now?" he asked like the idiot he is.

Rolling my eyes once more, I grabbed Abby's wrist and started walking away. "C'mon, Abby. He's not worth it."

"Oh, I'm more than worth it, sweetheart," Asher said.

I turned to his mischievous brown eyes and glared. "Charlie"

"What?" he asked me, confused.

"My name is Charlie. Not sweetheart."

Flipping my long, brown hair over my shoulder, I took a step closer to Asher. Of course, he wasn't one to back down either. So he remained perfectly still.

"I'm sure you'll be familiar with that name," I said, teasing him. "Considering how loud you'll be screaming it."

I'm not one to flirt with guys, or tease them either. But I just really hate Asher. And walking away from the argument wouldn't make me happy. I wanted to get the last laugh.

His eyes widened a bit, surprised by how I reacted to his smart remarks. But he quickly recovered.

"Is that a promise?" he asked with a smirk.

I wasn't expecting THAT response.

"Sure," I said back with a smirk of my own. I brought his head closer to mine since he's so much taller than I am and whispered in his ear, "If you can handle me."

And with that, I turned and skipped away with Abby by my side. She was smiling brightly at me, like I was some sort of celebrity.

"Well I didn't see that coming," she told me, awestruck.

"Trust me, I'm just as surprised as you are," I replied with a grin. "But it was fun."

"He's just such a douche bag. Right?" Abby asked me. I didn't respond.

"Right, Charlie?" she tried again. I still didn't respond.

It's not that I don't agree with her, because I do agree. He is a douche bag. But this little brain of Charlie's just hatched an idea.

"I've got an idea," I said, pointing my finger in the air.

"No," Abby said and backed away from me. "Charlie has an idea. This cant end well for anyone."

"You're probably right," I said. "But I want to do something."

"Do what?"

Taking a deep breath, I just blurted it out. "I bet you 50 bucks, I can get Asher James to fall in love with me."

"What?" she asked, her mouth hanging open.

"I have until the Masquerade Ball," I continued.

The Masquerade Ball is a yearly event where I live. It's a public thing, open to anyone in the city, and Riley and I always attend. It's held every year, one week before New Years Eve. This gives me about three months.

"Charlotte Swan, have you lost your mind?" Abby said. I sighed, knowing that Abby only called me by my full name when she is very disappointed in me.

"It'll work, Abby," I said, trying to persuade her. "And it'll be fun."

"Do you hear yourself?" she yelled in my ear, shaking me back and forth. "If Asher finds out about this plan of yours, you'll be dead! He's not afraid to hit girls, you know."

I nodded yes. "I know that. But he wont find out as long as you don't tell him."

"This is suicide," she said, pacing back and forth.

"C'mon!" I really wanted to go through with this plan. It sounds entertaining. Besides, Asher and his little friends always treat girls like crap. They completely toy with their hearts. Asher's going to learn a lesson, and that's actually a good thing.

He'll finally get a taste of his own medicine.

Abby thought about it further and then snapped her fingers. "I've got another idea," she told me. By now, I'm very excited. "I'll give you 100 bucks if you can make him fall in love with you AND get him to stop being such a douche bag."

Well this is going to be pretty hard. Making him fall in love with me may be possible, but turning him into a pretty decent guy? Not possible. At all.

"Oh c'mon," she said. "You know you wanna do it. It's 100 bucks!"

I thought about it and sighed. "Fine," I agreed.

"And if you loose, you owe me 100 bucks."

"I don't have 100 dollars just sitting around!" I protested.

"Me neither," she said. "It's only fair."

Giving up, I shook her hand, making it official.

"Now, you need to take me to the mall," I told her.

"Why?"

I looked down at myself. "I cant get Asher James to fall in love with me looking like... This."

She chuckled, but nodded in agreement. And now, we're off to the mall.

I hope you liked it.

It's only the beginning. Give it a chance.

And it's going to get better, more drama filled (of course) and more interesting.

PLEASE vote and comment so I know I should continue. :)
