"Alright, class," the English teacher told the class. I looked up from my doodling and watched her, expectantly.
"I'm going to pass out this sheet of paper and I want you to turn and work with the person sitting beside you," she explained.
I gulped. This isnt good.
Abby doesnt take this class with me. And unfortunately, neither does Asher. So I cant work with either of them.
I slowly turned my head to the right and saw who my partner would be.
"Hi," Tyler Jones said in almost a whisper, and hung his head down in embarrassment.
Tyler Jones. THE Tyler Jones.
The biggest NERD, GEEK, and LOOSER in school. And Abby and I arent popular at all, but even our social status will fall if I'm seen talking to this guy.
I groaned under my breath as the teacher came over to our table. She smiled at me. Almost like an evil smile. Then she gave me the paper.
Rolling my eyes, I looked over to Tyler. His big, thick, black glasses took over most of his face. I saw his bright blue eyes, although that's the only cute thing on him. He was wearing a plaid, button down shirt, and some black slacks. He also had on some black suspenders.
Nerd.
"Shall we start?" I asked him, putting a phony smile on my face. He looked up at me only for a second, before he looked back down at his hands.
"S-Sure," he replied in nearly a whisper.
Ok, we're not going to get anything done if this guy doesnt grow some balls and TALK TO ME!
"Look, you dont have to be nervous around me," I told him and offered a comforting smile. "I'm just a person."
"A really p-pretty person," he said.
Ew. Ok. Barf.
I cleared my throat. "Thanks," I mumbled. "But c'mon, we cant work together unless you talk to me."
He looked at me, hopefullness in his eyes. Then he pushed his glasses up since they had slid down his nose.
"Really?" he asked me. Only now have I noticed that when he talks, it sounds like his nose is stopped up.
"Really," I confirmed.
10 minutes later ...
"And I couldnt believe that my mom DIDNT like the Harry Potter series!" Tyler told me. "I mean, what kind of looser doesnt like Harry Potter?"
I lifted my head, which had just been buried in my arms. I gave him an uneasy smile.
"Look, Tyler. I am so happy that you're telling me all these stories about your crappy life," I lied. "But we really need to get this sheet done."
