Chapter Nineteen: New World, One God

A/N: I saw this suggested and, well, interesting idea... So here we go.

I might even add a little reader x Ryuk. Idk. Probably a minor hint, we'll see.

If it wasn't for the fan in the back screeching as the wind pushed it, the room would have been silent. No one knew what to expect, it was just silent. Was anything going to happen?

Light glanced around in confusion, then his eyes landed on you as if questioning why no one died.

"Huh?" Mikami questioned, then checked his watch. He stared at it with wide eyes, before yelling as he checked the Death Note again, "WHY?! WHY ISN'T IT WORKING?!"

"It's a fake," Near concluded, as his task force arrested Mikami and gave the book to Near. "I made a replica and switched the real with a copy. Now, let's see who isn't written in here..."

There was a pause, and Near froze.

"This is... Quite a surprise."

"Give me that," Mello snatched it from him and read the book. He didn't know how to react either, apparently.

L sighed deeply, and asked, "Well?"

The pair looked at him, before their eyes turned to the same source. Everyone else's eyes followed, and the silence became a beautiful tune in your ears. Their eyes were all on Light. He looked like a rabbit in the headlights for some moments as his eyes then landed on you.

"Why... Why just me?!"

Taking a step away from him, you asked, "W-what are you trying to say?!"

"Don't you even--" Light pounced towards you, but L punched him in the face before he could. He fell onto his backside, hand pressed to his cheek as he glared at both L and yourself. After swishing it around his mouth, he spat out some blood and growled, "You... Bitch. I thought you loved me. I thought that WE were going to have a new world together."

You tried to walk closer to Light, in which L grabbed your hand. With a reassuring look, you nodded at him before getting closer to Light. Slowly, you crouched in front of him before tilting your head, and told him, "There will be a new world... But I don't need you anymore. Playtime's up."

The air fell silent once more, until groans filled the air. Light looked over at task forces, seeing them clutching their chests as their eyes turned dull. They had a heart attack, making hopeless pleads until their untimely deaths. Mikami was next, then Matsuda and L's task force. All that was left was L, Matt, Mello, Near, L and Light. Everyone fell silent, and stared at you.

You nonchalantly took Light's wrist to see the time, before standing and stretching, "This was boring. Let's get this over with." With an extended hand, you looked down at Light and asked, "You gunna get up or stay down on the floor like a dog?"

Confusion flooded his face as you helped him up, only to be interrupted by L as he asked, "What... What's going on?"

"Ohh, you're all dead," Was all you replied, looking at L. "I just thought it would be rude to kill you all without saying that playing with you all was fun. That's all."

Mello pulled out a gun, pointing it at you. He scoffed, and rolled his eyes, "What an idiot... We're dead? Whatever, save a spot for me in hell. Late--" A clatter introduced a new silence as Mello froze. His hand shook, his face pained. As his hand curled into his body, his knees buckled and he fell onto them, staring at you.

"I predicted you'd say that... I prefer it when you're quiet and bow."

"What the fuck did you do to Mello--" Matt was next. Near, L and Light all fell to their knees as well.

This was it. They were going to die. You had one. The new world- your new world- was just around the corner.

Simply, you smirked and walked over to the corner of the room, where there was an oil can. Taking out your mobile, you played a favourite song of yours, and sung along as you poured the oil around the warehouse, and onto the bodies of the deceased, and the alive who were frozen and unable to speak.

"Imagine living like a king some day~" Starting to chuckle, you sung along and made sure to tip extra on Light. "Thanks for your hard work, Light. Ryuk, you can do what you want with him. Gain the remainder of his life, or whatever it is you do. Ohh, and there's some apples in the car."

"Thanks. I'll see you in a few. I'm glad I found you, [Y/N]."

"You're too kind, Ryuk... I'm just trying to have some fun."

"Watch you don't get yourself caught in the fire. I hear playing with it gets you burned."

"You know fine well I've been preparing to play with this fire for years. It's about to get... Extinguished," That said, you poured a little more onto L and giggled, then dropped the can on the floor. After walking to the door, you looked at Ryuk who was munching on an apple, sitting on the roof of the car as he waited. You looked back at the warehouse, smirked, and lit the lighter, "Nice playing with you all. I'll see you boys in the next life."

Without looking, you threw the lighter onto the gas and climbed into the car. Ryuk climbed in as well and asked, "Not gunna watch the firework display?"

"Mh, nah. I want a warm bath, a celebratory coke, and I need more lollipops. I'll pick up more apples too."

"Great, great! Let's go."

"You really are addicted."

"I have you and Light to thank for that. Ohh the irony. Light is alight."

"I really need to reevaluate my partner."

"Nah. You love me."

"Screw you."

"I love humans like you."

"So it's you who loves me?"

"Hah, well, you've certainly piqued my interest."

"Really now? A shinigami's interest caught by a human? Preposterous."

"We'll see... It seems we'll have a lot of time together."

"I better stock up on apples, in that case."

From the highway, you could see the building that was in flames. There was nothing more beautiful in your eyes. That was the end of it all; you had won. All that was left was to relax and prepare... For the new world.
